Land Pride, Northern tools, Leinbach e bay..........occasional use. 12".

Land pride is a double price, is it worth it? Anyone has an experience with either one of them??
Thanks ,

I just got a Rhino hydraulic so I could mount it on my FEL and have forward and reverse.

Soil type? And your expectations?

The tip is the most important thing for me. Leinbach's 12" auger is flat on the end (except for a tiny triangle tip) and will turn off target easy in grass or small rocks. I really disliked mine and I used it alot and wore out 2 or 3 tips well over 300 holes. I tried lots of different techniques but starting a hole accurately frustrated me. FWIW in clean soil it works ok. I replaced the auger with one from Tractor Supply and I like it a whole whole lot more. Its so much easier to use. For the avg do it yourselfer the gearboxes all seem adequate so tip, auger, shear mechanism, and cost are the real features to look at.

I have a 9 and 12 inch auger and Mine is a TSC also. I haven't had any problems with it except shearing shearpins which is expected. There are 2 types of gearheads. Some take grade 2 5/16 X 2 1/2 shearpins while the other takes grade 5 5/16x2 1/2 shearpins. I emailed kingkutter and that is the reply I received. I've had mine 3 years and about 300 holes later no problems...

Sorry, can't speak to any of those, but I just came in a couple of hours ago from drilling about 40 holes in very heavy clay for a neighbors horse corral. I've had a TSC branded 3pt, PTO drive PHD (don't know who the "real" manufacturer is - Speeco???) with a 9" and 12" auger for a couple of years now. Have broken shear pins and replaced teeth - normal maintenance. Have on occasion wished for reverse and down pressure, but am generally well satisfied with its performance.

I will admit to cussin' it out pretty heavily the first time I used the 9" auger. Then I noticed that the auger had two "inside" teeth and no outside teeth. Installed the proper cutting edges and the performance improved remarkably!

Thanks guys,

well, the problem, as always, is no experience.
I don't even know what soil to expect. / just moved/....clay I think here in
Chicago suburbs. Sand with rocks in UP Michigan.
I used a hydraulic PHD a few years ago , it was an easy job. But looking for a "right" auger tip ? I'd have no clue, but I am going to do my homework.
Thanks again,

Joe
