Default Boom Pole

Please forgive the ignorance, but what is the main purpose of this implement? I know it's for lifting, but what in paticular? Is it just for general use, an economical loader?

It's a pole not a bucket, so it's not a loader. Hook a chain around a car motor and lift it up. ta da. Think of a wrecker/tow trucks boom.

PC, a boom pole gets the object lifted away from the front of the tractor so it doesn't swing into the the sheet metal or ,worse, the radiator. When you use the FEL your not far enough away, especially with bulkly items as a crease in the sheet metal of one of my tractor can testify to (it was from a 4 ' disc plucked off a truck)

Here is a photo of a boom pole. The use is pretty obvious from its appearance.

Lets say you buy a box blade and they load it in your truck. So there you are in your driveway scratching your head. You could back up to a big tree chain the box blace to the tree and drive the truck out from under it but you might tear the bumper off your truck and it will probably leave a big hole in your lawn. Thats where the pole boom is so neat. Hook it up and lift the box blade out of the truck and gently place it in the barn. Very handy.

Looks like it's general lifting use. My loader has a hook welded to it so I use that all the time. Never even thought of using the 3pt for that.

In this part of the country we call them hog hangers. I they will also work on steers as well. Very handy for pulling up fence posts as well. These are especially useful if you reinforce the sides which will bend if over loaded. Long story.

I recently purchased this boom pole - but since I still have my snow blower on my tractor I have not tried it yet. It looks real heavy duty and is rated at 2000 lbs. capacity.

The price I paid was $120 new and $25 shipping. This is another photo. I ordered it from Ringo Hills Farm in Pennsylvania. I also have a carry-all from them that is well constructed.
