I ended up with a 3pt rear scoop when I bought my neighbors farm. At first I thought it would be nice to have it as I remember using it when I was younger and worked there. We would use it to fill holes in the lanes since he didn't have a loader.

Well, I have two loader tractors now and just about every type of dirt moving attachment possible (minus a pan) and can never see using a 3pt rear scoop. Is there much of a market for these things anymore or did they go the way of steel wheels?

Lots of folks don't have loaders (me included), but I do have a scoop. Don't use it all the time, but if my drive gets a low spot (pothole), I can fill it up, problem solved. I'm sure you can make someone a good deal on it if you really want to get rid of it. I also used mine to cut a shallow trench for draining water away from one part of my drive, something you might think about, before getting rid of it.

I have an MF35 that does not have a front end loader. I used my scoop to move some gravel this past weekend. I also use it to move dirt. Sure beats a shovel and wheelbarrow. You might find someone like me without a front end loader and sell it cheap.

As BDTD said.. many folks don't own loaders.. even those of us that do.. well.. loaders aren't the best 'digging' implements invented. In fact.. depending on design.. a loader may not be good for digging at al, and would prefer scooping from stockpiles. Now.. you could box blade up some dirt and then scoop it.. OR you could simply dig it out with a scoop. many scoops attach fore or aft facing.

Scoops carry dirt alot easier than a box if you have long distance or driveways to go over.

In fact.. digging with a box to make a small trench may be easier than using a loader..e tc.

I still use mine. In fact, it spent most of it's life mounted on the back end of my LOADER TRACTOR ;) They're handy for a few things, not least of which is loading it up with dirt to serve as ballast when using the loader. They're handy around the yard too. I usually keep mine with the scoop pointed to the rear.

If I were to fill a wheel barrow full of cow poop and have a hand shovel.. then it sure takes me 30 shovels to fill the wheel barrow once, I'm huffing and puffing and whispering a few choice words every once in while. I then have to traverse the creek, rocks up and down to get the poop to designated load off area.. by then I'm pooped :D :D , and since I think that I'm an analytical person, it appears to me that "it's a no brainer" that the Dirt Scoop wins the argument every time.

Next best thing next to "Front End Loader" is" Rear End Loader":D :D with much simpler and easier to maintain hydraulics. My 2 cents. obviously my opinion would have been a bit skewed if I had a fel:( :(

I recently bought one for $100. I don't have a front loader (yet).

I've used it for the following:

- Fill in holes around the yard
- Move top soil and grass off a baseball field I'm building
- Carry garden fresh veggies back to the house
- Carry trash cans (have to bungy them)
- Scrape a mound of dirt that had been used for a bike ramp

They come in real handy at times.

Well, I guess people do still use them. I don't do much digging into the ground anymore but if I need to the TN will dig a hole deep enough to bury itself if I wanted to (I have come close:( ). Anytime I need fill I have hundreds of yards of topsoil, clay/shale or just plain dirt piled up already so I guess I never thought about how other people would use this tool.

I really can't see myself using it, I have a Massey Ferguson back blade that came with the farm also and is in great shape but I can't see myself using that very much either.

I can get pics of the rear scoop and will post them so maybe you guys can tell me what it is worth for me to sell it. Right now it is just taking up space in the barn.

A 2wd tractor, especially one without power steering, works a lot better with a rear scoop than a front end loader. I even used mine for loading trucks and spreaders by attaching a 3pt lift boom to the top link position and making a couple extensions for the lower links. That is all many people have so there is still some demand and as others mentioned, it beats the heck out of a wheelbarrel and shovel. I gave mine away when I got a 4wd with front loader.
