I am trying to decide between the BX62 and the BX42 for my Kioti LK3054. The price difference is not huge. I am concerned if my Kioti will handle the BX62. I would rather buy the bigger one because me upgrading to a larger tractor is always possible.

I have searched and seen that there are some using the 62 with Kubota 3010s. I am not sure what the PTO HP of my Kioti is?

Any thoughts?

Thanks, -Keith

I bought the Wallenstein BX 62 a year ago after much research into matter. There is little doubt in my mind that you will not find a better unit at this price range. I have used mine on my 36 hp Montana, and more often on my 63 hp Zetor. Your Kioti will not have much of a problem operating the 62 as long as you keep your knives in decent condition. The weight of the unit could be more of an issue on your tractor than the horsepower. As long as most of your transporting is done on fairly level ground, I advise the 62. It is twice the machine for only 30% more money.

You will be impressed with how quickly the unit feeds itself - it will pull the brush and limbs right out of your hands. I cannot imagine why anyone would buy the optional hydraulic feeder. My unit easily handles pinewood up to 8 inches in diameter without ever engaging the governor on the tractor. A 12 foot long limb will be swallowed up in 5 or 6 seconds!

If you buy it (or any other brand) ALWAYS wear good gloves and safety glasses when feeding the machine. It is amazing how quickly things can happen when chipping.

I run a Bush-Hog CS-100P (same as a goossen 5400) on my CK25. The Kioti doesn't seem to even notice it's back there, even when heavily feeding the shredder while at the same time chipping a 5" log. I don't think you'll have any trouble running the BX62. If it starts to bog down, simply pully back on the log. But, I'll bet it won't slow down one bit.

We just went through what you are going through right now. We decided to go with the 62 figuring that at least we would have the option to put larger trees in the chipper. We have a JD 4310 with 27HP at the pto. We have only used it for about 3 hours so far, but have put some 5.5-6 inch cherry trees about 30 feet long in, it stalled the tractor twice, but went through them. Also put some similar size softer wood trees in and it ate right through them with no problem. One of the dealers I talked to said that about 80% of his customers go through this decision and about 50% of those decide to get the bigger chipper and never regretted it. Just my two cents, but I don't think for the extra few hundred dollars you can go wrong with going bigger.

I have been using the BX60 for two years with a B3030 with a rated PTO of 23hp. I chip mostly soft wood.. pine etc. 3 to 4 inch without problem as fast as it will feed usually without limbing the tree. I adjusted the fixed knife to make smaller chips in the interest of chipping 5 inch trees without stalling the tractor. A little more horsepower would be nice. An L39 is not far away. Weight has not been a problem.

Where do you all store your chippers? Ideally it would be inside a shed but I have about a year before my barn is built. Is outside on a pallet covered with a tarp OK?

Thanks for all of the replies. Sounds like the 62 is the way to go. Any BX42 owners?

covered? You're supposed to cover it?
Mine sits outside
runs on a MF1433 (27PTO hp) and runs fine.
BX62
amazing how fast it chips things up.

Ours is always in the barn, but we had the luxury of an 80x30 pole barn on the property when we bought the place. If it were me, I would at least tarp it.

I have had BAD luck throwing a tarp on equipment. It seems they are always wet under the tarp. If you do tarp it, make a "cage" or similar to keep the tarp off the metal, allow air flow thru it and if possible have a tarp under it too. On a slight angle so water won't pool ...

I believe my Kioti is 24.5 PTO HP. The rotor in the 62 weighs 170#. I hope the tractor does not stall when engaging the PTO.?
