I've read in other's posts that many adjust toplink a bit "loose" when setting up rotary cutter. When my HTL is connected, it fixes the distance from the tractor's upper attachment. How can that be loosened??

Most mowers have a "toggle" or some other type of mounting point for the top link to allow a certain amount of up/down flexability. By having the top link "loose", you have that toggle set with a bit of slack in each direction. Extend your toplink a bit so that when you lift the 3-point hitch, the back end of the mower doesn't raise immediately. That way, the mower can flex up and down, allowing the tailwheel to follow the contour of the ground better. If you run the top link "tight" every time the front wheels of the tractor go into even the slightest depression, the rear of the mower raises up.
