Has anyone had trouble with blowing out the boots on ball joints, etc. with the cordless or pneumatic grease guns?

Plus, have you priced a regular grease gun lately? LIke 20 plus dollars, up to $40, for a Plews (made in china  )
for 20 more dollars, why not?
Hm, Lincoln "base" gun at Blain's Farm & Fleet is $8.99. Their 12V cordless gun (alas, NiCd) is on sale for $117.99 this month.

Don't know about HF. Had good, had bad...
I do agree that the easier it is the more likely you are to do it.

JD 4520 with 400cx FEL with 4n1 bucket 8 hr (daily grease) 26 grease points all open "squirt until you see it variety"

Add in the days I have the BH on adt'l 18 or so

real quick a powered gun becomes the ability to keep it lubed.

I have a air powered gun with small (15 gal) portable tank that I use if around the house, but not where I have air pressure plumbed in.

I use a small "pistole grip" to cheat if I'm on the back side of the place and don't want to ferry the tank around. it requires exactly one cartridge per lube.

I see that Harbor Freight has their 12 volt grease gun on sale for $50. Comparing this to the Lincoln grease gun that sells for $160, I was wondering if anyone has owned/ used the HF gun and is it worth the money or should I continue to save?

Here is the link to the Harbor freight grease gun:

Thanks

I use the Lincoln and have had no problems...they are discounted by Buzzard Gulch thru Amazon...

Just an FYI. The online sale does not automatically pertain to the stores. I stopped by Harbor Freight today and finally found the grease guns. They were listed at $69.99. I asked about the sale price and they said the only way they could honor that is if I had a print out of the online sale price. I suppose I will either do that or just go ahead and order online. Depends which is cheaper taking into account shipping versus sales taxes. It seems ever so slightly cheaply made and I'm sure the Lincoln is better quality. I just don't think that for my occassional non-professional use that the Lincoln is 4 times better!

Yeah the sales price policy is a pain- I've run into the same thing at Northern Tool. Go into either HF or NT and get a hassle over the price...I have a laptop in my vehicle with a cellular data card and have actually had to carry it into the store and show the manager the online ad to get the sale price:rolleyes:
BTW most (all?) shippers will ding you for the tax anyway if they have a store or presence in your state...

Harbor Freight has not dinged me thou. I do agree that most stores do ding you for the tax, but they do not seem to crossreference or whatever. I ordered about to months ago by the way. Good luck with the guns.

Man, here I was thinking that only girly men used those battery powered grease guns:D .

I could not justify one on the volume of use argument like FWJ or Lone Cowboy can but I am wondering if one of these will help with a persistant problem I've had. Sometimes the grease will just come around the nipple and ooze back at you rather than going where it is intended. Now that can be due to a clogged nipple but sometimes it just seems to take more force to drive the grease in. These battery powered jobs (at least the Lincoln) can generate quite a bit of pressure. Does that help get grease through "sticky" nipples or does it just let the grease fly out around the nipple faster?

For what it's worth, my favorite manual type is the lever type with a solid metal tube. That allows me to hold the cartridge with one hand while pushing against the nipple and operate the lever with the other. I don't need to worry about holding the nipple on and can put my weight against the nipple to hold the gun on tightly. You do need to twist about sometimes due to the lack of the flexible hose but dispite that I still seem to reach for that one when it's time to grease.
