Just came back from the dealer. I was pricing sub-frame backhoes.
The dealer told me that the Kubota backhoe and the Woods backhoe were made in the same factory to the same specs. And now the Woods products are colored orange that is nearly identical to Kubota Orange.
Can anyone confirm or refute the claim?

I can't say for sure about current backhoes, but I know in the past Woods manufactured backhoes for Kubota. I have on from the late 80s. The paint color is not the same, Woods are a light brown, Kubota's one of two orange colors depending on age.

I recently completely rebuilt one so I know the parts are completely interchangeable. You can get parts from either Woods or Kubota to fit the backhoes. The only difference would be the color.

they are not the same now. there is a comparison on the woods web site (groundbreaker X).

Woods did make some hoes for Kubota and after Kubota started making their own Woods still supplied buckets. Kubota now makes its own buckets also I am told. I happen to have a friend whose company makes some of the parts for some of the Kubota hoes and they ship straight to Kubota for assembly.

I might be a little concerned with a dealer that doesn’t know what the company he represents actually makes.

With manufacturers constantly changing sources, sometimes having multiple sources and in many cases not being forthcoming regarding there sources, I wouldn't expect a dealer to always have this knowledge. I also think to the consumer it really doesn't matter.

The Woods backhoe's fit further to the rear of the axle then the Kubota's unit. This is a concern as it moves the leverage of the hoe back from the center of the tractor further which could cause issues with the tractor chassis at a later date.

Not for nothing, you probably wouldn't have issues using a woods unit during the warrantee period of the tractor with chassis breakage so it's not really an issue for the dealers sales department only on the service side.

Andy, I sure understand your point and normally would agree. In this case it sounded to me like the dealer was saying they are the same hoe which they are not. That would be a concern to me.

I've got the Woods brochure, and it shows the backhoes in 2 colors. One is a blue that looks a lot like New Holland, and the other is orange very much like Kubota.

But the ADVANTAGE of the Woods mounted on a Kubota is that you can buy a tractor with a CAB...and still get a BH. Standard models of the CUTS with cabs..ya cant mount a Kubota BH on.

And look at the differences in the "arms" on the BH boom. Woods are made heavier
