I just purchased a JD4520 and am looking for a box blade for it
what is the best size and weight for this model. My soil is clay and good topsoil with few rocks or tree roots

i was thinking a 6ft boxblade - weight 500 to 750 Lbs

any suggestions

Welcome to TBN :D! I agree with your assessment of need. You want your box blade to be wider than your wheel width. Heavier is better. There appears to be another "rule of thumb" that you want ~ 100 - 125 pounds per foot of boxblade width, but you will get a lot of opinions about the "rule". I looked at a lot of box blades before I purchased my Woods GB60. I wanted a box blade that fit the "rule", easily adjustible scarifiers, fixed tailgate, had at minimum 3/8" endplates/sideplates, had decent paint and welds, as well as captured lower links. In my immediate area it came down to Woods, Land Pride, and Bush Hog. I went with Woods due to price. I liked the King Kutter Heavy Duty Box Blades (also cheaper :)). They seemed to be more robust than their standard issue box blades, but they had a floating tailgate. Jay
