You could use / try ........ a bolt with a jamb / lock nut.

Lynch pins like your current model and several other types are availble from McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com). These are also carried at just about any Tractor Supply store. Get a handful so that you always have a spare.

As Ronald mentioned, a stainless nut-bolt arrangement will also work if you don't intend to remove it very often. Make sure that the nut is a self-locking or nylock design. These are also carried by McMaster-Carr.

Yes, SS is a good choice since it resists fatigue well, and tho weaker, is probably strong enuf for the application. Try to find a length that has a shank that crosses both shear areas and just cut off the excess thread.
