What makes a good snow blower? I have a 1/4 dirt driveway and my fencing acts like a snow fence. A bad storm will leave snow 3-4 feet deep. I just bought a 34hp L3400.

I started a thread a while ago about the advantages and disadvantages of a long chute vs. tall chute. Everyone has there own opinion but it is a good thread, seen here.

I think for size, you should get just wide enough to cover your tracks. Any wider might be too much for the tractor. I have a 60" JCW for my 21hp/15.5 PTO hp tractor and it has no problem going through the huge snowbanks that the highway trucks leave at the end of my road.

Here is a short video of my snowblower in action.

Maybe trade it in and get the Grand L with the warm cab and then a front mounted snowblower.

Actually, I have a woods rear mount blower and it has worked great for me. I like having the FEL on to push stuff around with when needed. I would think it depends upon just how many storms you get, but the woods works fine for me and it covers both wheels. Blowing snow in reverse takes a bit of time to get comfortable with and it is slow going. I can turn 3/4's around in the seat and just watch the snow blow. I use my snowmobile helmet that has a heated visor keeps the head warm plus I can see after the snow blows into my face!

33 degrees this morning just another warm day ahead.

If you haven't made the purchase as of this time you may want to at least consider an alternative like a snow plow. I started out with a LandPride blower but it turned out not to be the best choice when It came to the gravel drive. Then I found an old plow and for a few hundred dollars mated it to the tractor.

Using the plow in my opinion is quicker and you don't get all the blow-back in your face that goes with a blower. Think about it.

Hello Mike,

I took a look at your plow setup and just wondering how it works for you. I happen to have an old plow hanging around, but was worried about how far infront of the FEL it would be located? Maybe it isn't a problem?

Just curious, also did you put an additional hydraulic line out for the angle?

Wayne the plow works very well. I did find out that it works smoother following contours when the FEL is in the float position. However in float the loader arms contact the ground so my solution was to install a set of adjustable plow feet on the frame of the plow preventing the loader arms from dragging the ground (problem solved).

The 2 cylinders on the plow are both single action as most plow cylinders are, so they connect via QC where the grapple usually attached.

Thanks for the input guys. I am getting the FEL, blower and rear blade. The snow will move. :)
