Grapple "Blonde moment"...forgot to unhook hoses on grapple!!!

Just recieved my new implements from Mid-State....grapple, forks and toothbar. If anyone is interested I will post some pics later.

Anyway, I was packing up the other night right before it got dark and in my hurry to move all the implements around with the FEL, I forgot the unhook the grapple hoses when I dropped it on the ground. I madly backed up the tractor and actually dragged the 550lb grapple back a few feet before I caught it. Thankfully this grapple is designed with a cylinder cover that also has a hose "retention" that saved me. Close call...too close

So, am I the only one here that has ever had a "blond moment" working with their tractor or implements??? Lets hear them...if you are game

Nope never had a "blonde" moment!

Except for when I forgot to lower the boom on the BH and hit the header over the shop sliding door..... 4 times.

Nope, don't have blond moments any longer. All of my current moments are "SENIOR" moments or brain gas.
Had a rear wheel come off of my JD 2010 while trying to pull a stump out of the ground. I didn't pay attention to all the warning signs. Definite senior moment.

Definite moment yesterday, whatever you want to name it. Mowing a patch of ground I've mowed 100 times before. Too steep for sideways. Clicking right along, sideways, and had three on the ground, one in the air. Way too close to two in the air with me and the other two on the ground. Lowered the FEL real quick-like. BTW, the same FEL that I've only had for two weeks. Best money I EVER spent.

Thankful to still be in one piece.

I did the same thing with my FEL snowplow last year-drug it about 5 feet before I realized what I did!

I've done the same as this before but with a silage trailer with hydraulic tipping.

In a bit of a rush to get back to the harvester with an empty trailer, wasn't really thinking.

The tractor had a Pick Up Hitch so I didn't have to get out of the cab to unhook it (so I thought)

Anyway, I dropped the trailer and drove off

Then, when I went to backup to the next trailer, I looked out the back window and saw 10 foot of hydraulic hose

Those quick release hydraulic connectors are really strong. I ended up ripping the connector off the cylinder on the trailer.

That was my blond moment

Boy, some of these stories are BLOND. No blonde stuff for me....Except if you count the time I jacked up the back of the tractor to check for run-out in the rear wheel. Had a buddy hop on and start it up and give her a little fuel while was watching. Would have been fine had the thing not been in 4x4. No harm, just left with my floor jack.

HARD LEFT turn operating my side-pull haybine in a NEW rather small hay field...broke the hydraulic hose which controls the lift of the unit by pinching it between the left tire and the pull shaft ...Quick jog back to the barn for tools...and a fairly long drive to my JD dealer for a completely new fabricated line...and was still able to get back home reinstall the line and finish the field before evening...

markmc, A solution to that particular "blond moment' is a simple remounting of the quick connects. Usually the hose goes thru a hole in a bracket which is sandwiched when the QC is threaded onto the hose. An "auto release" method is to make a bracket where the sliding collar of the female QC is mounted solid to the bracket with a U bolt. To make a connection grasp both hoses & push togeather. To release simply pull on the male hose. This is standard on our snowmobile trail groomer because the drag has a shear pin in the hitch and sometimes gets left behind. QCs are color coded because there's several wrong ways to connect six hoses, but only one right way. This is used on an air brake vehicle if you use shop air to keep the system charged, i.e. on firetrucks. MikeD74T

I was using a rear mounted 3pt scoop to move some dirt one time and had a trip rope to dump the bucket.. tied the rope to my rops ont he right side so all I had to do was reach back and yank it.

At the end of the day i droppe dthe scoop and drove off.. dragging it 5' befor ethe thin 1/4" poly rope bit the dust...
