I got a 4510 with 72" bucket and removable/reversable cutting edge.
Im looking for a reasonably priced tooth bar that would fit on my bucket. Markhams website says they do not fit buckets with bole on cutting edge. The only ones that seem to fit cost 2-3 times as much as the markham.

So, how important is the cuting edge on my bucket? Will I damage the bucket if I removed the cutting edge? Couldnt I just remove it and put on a markham tooth bar? That is of course if I can get the nuts off.

I looked into this same thing for quite a long while and there are not many optoins out there for toothbar over the bolt on edge. I just took the plunge and got the Markham version and removed my bolt on edge from my bucket. What I will probably do is eventually get another bucket to put the cutting edge on, only about 500 for another new bucket.

Most TBN folks swear by a toothbar for digging into material and prefer it to a cutting edge. Myself included.

If you are doing work where a smooth bucket edge is necessary... then you need the cutting edge.

Myself, I have the toothbar and not a bolt on edge. I have seen no need for the bolt on edge. For the few instances where I am trying to do fine work, I can easily unbolt the toothbar, do the work, then reinstall the toothbar. Wear on the bucket edge is not noticable IMHO.

Sounds like i can just remove the cutting edge. Yeah, this should be fun. All the bolts are well rounded over. Nuts are in good shape. May end up cutting them off.

Many people do NOT use a bolt on cutting edge ... just don't get too carried away and try to lift something with the edge of the bucket... you CAN bend it (typically difficult, but it can be done) and make it difficult to put a toothbar on... toothbar provides very significant strength to the lip of the bucket.

If it were me, I'd remove the bolt on edge, install a toothbar.... and use it that way 98% of the time... then remove toothbar (easy, just two bolts) when you need a smooth lip... reinstall cutting edge ifyou are concerned at that time.
