Thank you,

I purchased this model from Iowa Farm Equipment last August and have been very happy with it.

It would be a long drive, but if you want to come to western Illinois, I have a big pile of wood that is going to be chopped into firewood or chipped. I'll do the firewood and you can run the chipper (big grin).

I do not have the hydraulic feed and am impressed with how it pulls everything into the chipper anyway. I agree with your desire to see it in person and hope you can find one within driving distance.

BTW - I brought it home in the bed of a 1/2 ton pickup truck and it fit without a problem.

I bought a BX-42 last fall from my local dealer, felt the BX-62 was bigger than I needed. I really like the wide input and haven't seen the need for hydraulic feed. Have wished it was the -62 a few times but just cut those into firewood length and put them in the splitting pile.

Looked at more expensive brands but am happy with the -42.

You can get one from Salem Farm Supply, northeast of Albany. I also be that the Sharon Springs Garage could get one for you too. I bought mine in NH to avoid the sales tax.

ANDYMA,

I did look at the Valby. There is a dealer for those out in Utica NY, They seem pretty beefy, but a little pricey. In your opinion, does its quality warrant the price? I don't mind paying for quality.

.

I think so. I've had 2 and they have both worked perfectly for years. Very easy to service.

How does this chipper self feed dry wood? 1"-2.5" blueberry is all dead that i need to chip. sorry for attempted hijack.

It self feeds by the angle of the cutting blades, it pulls the wood into itself as it cuts. Like I said, I have the 62 non hydro feed and don't see a reason to get the feeder. The wide feed chute is nice because you don't have to limb branches hardly at all

Driver444,
I have the Salsco 600 series and it works very well.... I like it alot...

The 624 is a little different but I'm sure its well made and works well.

Chris

I've had the Valby self feed and now the hydro roller feed. Even though the self feed worked fine there is no comparison. The hydraulic feed is velvet smooth and at the end of the day you hardly know you worked. The self feed definately lets you know who's boss. Depending on how large a piece you feed and what it hit it jerks it out of your hands. With the hydro feed I can feed a 4 or 5 " tree 30 feet long with all it's branches and walk away to get another one.

Scott,
I'd be interested for a couple hundred less... I'm thinking that 2/3 the original price for a used attachment would be about right. Let me know if you're interested in that. What shape are the blades in?
