Online Prices?

Who lists their attachment prices online? Most all of the web sites I have found only tell you about the implement.

Minor Rant:
If no one lists the prices and the manufacturer does not list an MSRP, how can you tell your not getting ripped off???

I would like to compare several manufactures online to see if one is more expensive than the other; Landpride, Befco, Buhler, Stirex, King Kutter, etc... Also, I want to know if I'm in the ball park before I get my hopes up to buy something. I want to buy a rotory tiller, but my local dealer wants $1,400 for it. How can I negotiate or shop around if there are no **** prices listed.

I've found very few places giving on-line prices. If the manufacturers are not selling on-line, then they want you to buy through their participating dealerships.

By your own competitive shopping. You may be able to pick up MSRP prices at a few sites like at JD's website. Then use these to compare with retail prices.

By visiting as many dealers as possible and getting as many quotes as you can. Most dealers are no different from others. The majority of them discount off MSRP since they all work on tight margins and work with the same benchmark MSRP prices as provided by the manufacturer. You may find that they don't vary by all that much. So, shop around. This is the only sure way I know that will give you a range of competitive prices. I, too, would like to see online prices. In their absence, I have sent dealers emails and made phone calls. It's an interesting exercise to see how long it takes a dealer, many of whom have an extensive web site, to respond to emails. Sometimes it's kind of sad to think how much money they've spent on a web site, that almost no one is responding to inquiries generated by it. Note that Carvers have always responded within a day, at most two. With several generations being comfortable with online shopping, the dealers better get with it, IMHO.

In each case, whether by email or phone, when I want to buy an implement, I tell the dealer what task I want to accomplish and not which implement I want to buy, even if I know what implement I want from the experts right here on TBN. This gives me a chance to see how knowledgeable the dealer is. Again it's interesting to note what questions the dealer asks, and what they don't ask.

For the big ticket items, like my tractor, I visit the dealers who have passed the phone/email tests.

The only site I know of that lists prices on everything is www.easternfarmmachinery.com. They also seem to sell about everything. I have noticed their quoted prices are less then their listed prices.

In some cases the manufacturer will not allow the seller to list below MSRP, I know it's that way with many electronics, it's the "Call For Special Pricing". In many instances a dealer can only sell within their territory area.

I have found some great prices on line on many things but shipping usually adds the dollars back on to make it more logical to buy closer.

Sweet Tractors have prices listed on their items.

TSC will list some prices, but they are also market driven. On those items they don't.

This is all so true. I just completed an interesting shopping excursion for a JD4710 through five local dealers. I gave them by detailed shopping list, asked for a detailed line item price quote on each item, and asked for a speedy reply since I told all dealers I was serious about buying a tractor. One dealer told me to send my shopping list to his e-mail address...Result: I sent shopping list twice, notice came back both times with unable to deliver error messages. Two other dealers I tried to correspond through their website's e-mail address...Result: No response back from either of them.

Bottom line: The dealer that got my business was the one who I was able to clearly communicate with through the dealership's e-mail address and who was responsive with the specific line item prices like what I requested. He was also prompt with answering my follow-up questions and interestingly was the dealer that gave me the best tractor quotation of the five dealers I visited.

BTW, that winning dealer was KC-Canary, Fultonville, NY.

I sent soooo many e-mails to dealers that listed used equipment for sale when I was shopping. I got NO responses at all. As you can see by my signature I bought a Yanmar, from a friend of a friend type thing. Will never regret the deal I got. And the dealers that never responded, I won't even buy oil, keys, filters, nothing from them. I know everyone gets busy, but I always answer e-mail. I have to respond within 24 hours to mine at work, why can't they?

The dealers would be better off not having email than to have it and not answer.
