PTO Powered Rotary Plow

Here is a link to a site that is selling a PTO powered rotary plow. tytaninternational
It looks like a disk cultivator but it is powered and seems to cut as deep as a plow. Does anyone else make something like this? Does anyone have experiance with one and how well does it work?

I always said that vendors ought to put a couple Gravely type rotary plows to mount on the PTO of a tractor. This one isn't like the Gravely's, which has 4 little plow shares on the shaft. Can see how they'd work much better than just a pull-type disc plow.

The problem with the Gravely's, like many things you do with it, is that the plow will eat your lunch, or your body that's hanging onto the handle bars. Hit some immovable or heavy object, and those handle bars can become battering rams to your body. Mounted on a heavier tractor (Gravely is only about 400#), this would not be a problem. However, I've used a couple big 20" discs on the back of my 4010. They will turn it if they hit something.

I think we're talking about two different types of machines. Although I don't have any experience with it, the tytaninternational appears to be some kind of powered disk plow rather than a rotary plow.

The Gravely rotary plow will slice up the hardest ground and pulverize it in seconds, but I've been cautioned not to hit anything solid with it. Without a dirt shield in place, I find it will throw your dirt about 3-4' feet from where you plow.

I suspect that a farm tractor size rotary plow would throw dirt and rocks much farther.

Not trying to hyjack this thread but...I visited the TytanInt...link. Under Tractors, video A, a tractor is pulling some kind of blade with a tractor type tire attached to help with leveling??? Has anyone else done this, how is it attached, any close-up pics?

Thats a muck scraper used around dairy barns to remove maure from paved areas. It is just an old tractor tire cut in half with one side wall removed and attached to a three point frame. When it wears out you just throw it away and use the other half of the tire.

As for the little rotary plow itself..........stear clear.

#1-It's of questionable repute and parts/support. It's been discussed on this board before.

#2-It's essentially does nothing to the soil that a regular moldboard or disc turning plow does. Moldboards and disc turners can be had for less, from far more reputable domestic dealers/makers, new or used, and they utilize far fewer moving parts.

#3-At the last, you can still dig-up old pull one-way disc plows of 3-5 bottoms for scrap value that will do what that thing is doing. We have 8- and 12-bottom disc one-ways that will do the same as this thing on a larger scale.


About the only benefit to it that I could see is if you were using one in an area of serious root growth where the discs were able to partially "saw" through roots via the PTO power at the expense of speed. Otherwise, in almost all other general ag applications, it doesn't do anything special.
