I found a almost new farmstar post hole digger locally. Seller is asking $400.00for it. It has a 12" auger that looks like it was never used.

My place is fairly rocky...what do you guys think of Farmstar? I need to dig about 20-25 holes total using a 29 hp cut.

The other one I have found is a Leinbach for $450. Is the Leinbach worth the difference? I am thinking it is...

Thanks

Ridge

Sounds like a good deal, is it the 300 PHD, 500 PHD or the 720 PHD model ?

No idea, seller got it at TSC so I am guessing it's a lighter unit. I just saw pix of it. I am leaning toward the Leinbach, they appear to be heavier duty.

Interesting?
The Farm Star Website doesn't list TSC as one of their distributors. Wish they were, have one ten miles away. Their Website lists Gebos as the primary distributor and the nearest one is 60 miles away.
Has anyone seen Farm Star equipment at a TSC? I'm interested in the Downforce Kit.

I have a Farm Star 500 series PHD and have been very happy with it, though I've only dug about a dozen holes so far. I have moderately heavy clay soil and it digs right down. I would mention to weldingisfun that you can purchase accessories through a link on the Farm Star web site--look for e-retailers. I bought a 12 inch extension through the e-retailer at a significantly lower price than the store where I originally bought the PHD would order it for me.

Whichever unit you select, consider getting carbide tipped teeth for it since your property is rocky. My place is really rocky. I wore out the stock teeth in less than 20 holes (I cannot remember for sure, it might have only been 10) I got a set of carbides and they cut much better- have 80-90 posts in.

Still was a lot of work and could not drill in one area of the property because of granite or something. Good luck.
