Using Scarifier as Chisel Plow?

The issue in hooking up the scarifier is that without a parking stand, it will rest on its back, laying at only about a 10 to 20 degree angle from flat horizontal. From this you can attach the draft links, but unless you have some kind of incredible Inspector Gadget toplink, you need to raise it off the ground and then push it upright to attach the toplink. In doing this, first the scarifier shanks (sharp) hit your rear tires. Bad for the tires, but so far no punctures (I have 16.9x28 R1's with like 8 plys. If you have fewer plys you might experience punctures). Next, the implement weighs 235lbs per Landpride (sounds realistic to me) and requires what I would estimate as 100lbs of pushing force to hold it upright. I can easily do that with two hands, but I need another hand or two to attach the toplink, and I simply cannot apply that much force with just one hand. So, unless I parked it against a fencepost, I need to hold it up while my wife connects the toplink pin. I have tried some games with trying to hold it upright with a big rock on the shanks, or by digging it into the ground while only the draft links are attached, but no real luck. A parking stand would make hookup 10x easier.

So, I gather you need one of three things for this implement then.

1. three hands
2. a second wife/girlfriend
3. A parking stand

I would opt for #1, it may get in the way sometimes, but will always be "handy" when needed. The parking stand is good for only one thing, and come to think of it, #2 is only good for one thing as well.

CPA...I would say try your boxblade first, before buying the other attachment. Lower the scarifiers on the boxblade, (teeth), as far down as they will go. Then, shorten your toplink so the boxblade tilts more forward. That will allow the teeth to point a little further down at the ground and dig a little better. A little weight will help on the boxblade, too. Let us know how you did.

Wow...this wan indeed interesting since I am reeally considering buying a LandPride Scarifier. I need to break up and pull out lots of small roots 4-10 inches deep as well as loosen the soil. The soil is sandy with no rocks and no clods of dirt. Just need to get the top lares off and my LandPride York rake will not do th e trick by itself.

Any suggestioons?

Guys - if you are not a linebacker and over 40 spend the $100 for a Quick Hitch. I bought one from Tractor Supply and another from Northern Tools. The one from NT was only $100 or there about.

I am 64 and would rather drive my tractor than wrestle with 400 lb implements so my tractor also sports a hydraulic top link. Now that's a bit more pricey because you have to have rear remote hydraulic connectors and control valve as well as the hydraulic top link. I am well pleased with my setup because I can control the top link from the drivers seat which lets me adjust my implement on the fly.

Okay call me stupid .. whats the purpoes of a scarifier? Break up the ground like a chisel plow? Break the hard Pan? Allow more moisture into the ground and establish the plant root base?

Can the piece of equipment in question achieve this? Will the sod bunch up and plug up this? Will it do the job?

If your trying to reach the hard pan and open the ground for moisture and root devolpment why not a subsoiler? I'm just asking and wondering.

Thanks for the information about the quick hitch. I need to check them out at tractor supply or NT. I just bought a woods (BSS72) box blade that weighs 550 pounds so anything to make life easier is a plus!
