fence unroller/stretcher

I've never liked stretching wire with a tractor, though I've done it with some success. I may just use it as an unroller and use my manual stretcher, we'll see. Just got tired of wrestling wire by myself.


Also, did a job today with my boxblade clearing and leveling a lot that is going to be used for a softball field. $200 for three hours of work, and the customer was really impressed. If I ever get caught up on the homestead I might start looking for some paying jobs again, but there is just too much to do at home right now.

The link is broken for me and I can't seem to find it with a manual search on their site. I don't see any really obvious lock on it to use for stretching the fence though.

I'll second Soundguy's question. $? I'm having a deer problem and may have to stretch out a bunch of fence. It'll be a lot taller than 4' though, so I might have to build a big spool to help unwind it unless it comes in an 8' or 10' version.

The website lists it as $283, but the two TSCs around here list them at $269. It is on page 158 of their blue book.

hmm, I am not sure why the link is not working here. If you copy and paste it into your browser it works though.

The opening is 65" tall, so that is about the limit on height.

As for stretching, the vertical piece on the back is actually two pieces. At the top, between the bar that holds the wire and the back vertical you can see the hinge. When you begin you open that hinge, run the wire between the two pieces of angle iron and unroll the wire. Once you get to the end of the run, you close that hinge and three bolts sandwich the wire between the angle iron for stretching. Though if one was afraid of over stretching with it they could just bypass that part and place their manual stretchers on that vertical bar.

Well, I used the unroller today, and it worked pretty good.

I had to turn out of the pin to the inside to make it fit my yanmar, but that is pretty common with my little tractor. What I was not expecting was the little birdblock that kept my lift arm from being able to slide over the pin once it was towards the inside. Instead of cutting it to fit, I made a spacer to extend the pin out far enough.

My little yanmar 1500D is pretty good for this application though. Since it was orginally designed to pull a tiller at really low speeds, I have extremely low gearing that allows me to stretch fence without over stretching. That worked out well. However, I will have to add more weight to the front to get a little more traction. I have the weights (about 90lbs that I bought for $20 bracket and all) I just needed to buy some bolts.

I only stretched 200 feet of wire today, but it went really fast once I worked out the little problems of getting the unroller onto the tractor.

After removing the old fence and running over it with the boxblade (I should have ran the shredder over it too, but...)

Just need to add a few strands of eletric and it is done.


These gals are not happy now that they cannot escape this paddock to come see me up at the house.

That's pretty slick looking and compared to the cost of a simple carry-all it's not a bad price. I wonder if it would work on snow fence though...

I have no idea. I've only seen snow fence once in my life, and that was because someone had it pressed into service to contain a small dog.
