Rake Woods RB5-1 Back Blade & Landscape Rake?

Hey all, newbie here... sort of. Not many hours in the seat yet.

I bought the equipment listed in my siggie (except for the disgusted wife ).

Anyway, one purpose for the machine was to prepare about 1/2 to 3/4 acre area for grass after being overgrown with mulberry, sumac and a wide variety of stout vines.

The disgusted wife said that if I dig all that ground up, I have to rake it out as well. I know what she means, you turn a shovel around here and you're guaranteed at least a couple of rocks - alluvial sandstone, generally not real big.

I was reading the back blade manual and it looks as though either a blade or a landscape rake could be mounted on the carrier assembly. But the Woods site had nothing. The rake I'm looking for is an LR6-1. The manual is still on their website.

So, does anybody know if I am correct about needing only the rake assembly? And if so, are they hard to find? Are they worth a diddly? Should I also try to find guide wheels (just read about those while searching prior to starting thread.)?

I believe that Woods and LandPride both make a combination landscape rake with a flipdown backblade attachment. In theory it would give you the best of both worlds, but the flipdown back blade has a shorter blade heigth than their regular blackblade. Both of these units come with endplates for the blade. I would recommend purchasing guage wheels for the rake. They do help level the dirt work. As for the disgusted wife- get some practice time operating the tractor and attachments out of sight if possible. Then "prove" to her how this tractor is "necessary" to accomplish all your mutual projects. If that does not work throw a TBN member or two under the bus . I got used to sleeping by myself along time ago . Jay

Well, that's just it. I already have the back blade and carrier. But from the manual it looks as though I could buy (if it were available) a landscape rake that would fit in the same carrier assembly. Just put the thing on the hitch, lift it, drop out the blade and lift in the rake.

Otherwise, since I already have a back blade, I'll have to buy a separate landscape rake. Which won't make the DW very happy. Especailly if I try to spring a tiller on her! I mean, how else am I going to get a half acre ready for grass?

I was cruising through the offerings of the various companies and agree with you that often the same frame seems to be used for the RB and the Rake. However the only offerings that I could find that allowed use of both were what has been previously mentioned.

With that in mind I designed and built a RB this past fall, and hope to make the rake maybe this spring. I am just finishing the rear gauge wheels setup. I am having a hard time finding the rake tines that I need to make it. They seem to be readily available in the States from the normal sources, but I cannot find them here. I had hoped that with the RB I could earn some extra money plowing snow this winter, but it has not snowed more than a couple of inches at a time and has been VERY warm.

I do not think that you will find what you want. Your will have to make what you want or you might try ordering the rake that you need from the parts list manual. If you are sure that it will fit the unit that you want and do not mind the hassle of changing it out. I would give it a try anyway.

I can feel your pain (SWMBO ), and it does look like both the RB and LR would fit in the carriage assembly when looking at the diagrams. I considered your choice option as well, but have not been too active on that front as I need to let things mellow for awhile before my next acquisition. As a TBN member in good standing , I volunteer to be thrown under the bus for your tiller - you need a tiller . Jay

PS: Let me "justify" the tiller to DW .

Actually, I can worry about the tiller IF I get the "Transylvania Trees" taken down before spring. Which won't be easy, because I push a mouse 5 days a week during daylight hours.

These trees are mostly scrub trees or overgrown fruit trees, well past bearing (except for a mulberry). Vines overtook them before I bought the land and broke all the tops over. Vines are all through the ground as well, though I've been cutting them back everywhere I can find them. I'm concerned that grabbing one with the box blade tines could really give the tractor a jerk; some of the vines (not to mention tree roots) hare 1-1/2 or 2" in diameter.

And don't worry, I have bigger up on the hill - I've had poison ivy up there 3 - 4" in diameter up the sides of trees - most of that is now dying, thanks to me and my double bit axe, but rehabing this land will be a challenge.

At any rate, I hope I can still order an LR-6 from Woods.

Good luck building a rake! I take it you're good with a welder? It seems if you had a section of pipe or segment of rolled plate, you could cut the tines out of that, then clamp them between some bars. Then weld up something to get it on to your carrier or hitch. Wow. Way past my talents!

Tom is dumber that a brick lifevest! Obviously you'd cut the tines to length from bar stock and bend them over a suitable form...unless you really, really like to run a big band saw...

On the thread issue itself, I stopped by the dealer this AM to make my aquaintance, and they don't sell Wood agricultural products anymore, only the construction stuff. Hmmm...
