I've got a JD4300, no FEL (yet!), and need a quick and easy way to lift things on and off the back of a flatbed pickup. Not yet sure *what* things I'll be lifting, so want as high (in both height and weight) as my tractor can handle.

Any specific suggestions? Including hopefully a website where one can be ordered?

How high off the ground should I be able to lift? Can I easily clear the bed of a truck?

I've seen some with anywhere from 500 to 2000 pound lift capacities, and the prices didn't seem much different.. usually in the $100-200 range.

I know this has been discussed in other threads, but I couldn't find any specific reference to one which is well-made and can be ordered easily from a reliable website.

Thanks much,
Bob

1) I can't afford one at this time.

2) I want something to keep the thing I'm lifting away from the tractor further so it can't swing and do any damage.

Bob,

I've got one I built out of some pretty heavy wall 2 1/2" pipe. I copied the design from one I found on my dealers lot. I added some reinforcement in a couple of places and increased the boom length from 80" to 96".

The longer pole makes your tractor lighter on the front but I have always used it with a fairly heavy tractor.

I have no idea what it's capacity is but it will probably pick up more than my tractor would. I have lifted disks, bush hogs and all kinds of stuff out of pickup trucks, off trailers and off the ground.

The trick is to lower the 3ph all the way down and use the top link to adjust the end of the boom down to where you get the maximum lift. I get about 5.5 feet of lift out of mine. A hydraulic top link would make it even better.

Yeah, a fel can do the job better but this does the job for me just as well and a lot cheaper. I would use a fel about once or twice a year - the rest of the time it would just be in the way.

Look around at most any tractor supply place or tractor dealer and pick out the one that best fits your tractor and your needs.

Thanks, Chris! I'll have one by next Tuesday. They had a rugged 2000# unit, and I liked the sound of the folks, so what the heck? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I know my JD4300 probably can't take full advantage of the 2000 lb. capacity, having only 2200 lb lift 24" behind the hitch, but who knows about upgrading tractors at some point... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Appreciate your help!

BTW, does anyone have a picture of one of these handy? I couldn't find a pic on the web site..

Thanks, Folks!

Mike, I've looked at those at TSC and they're rated for 1000 pounds, so I guess so, but to tell the truth, the ones I looked at appeared sorta flimsy. Now that's going by looks only so maybe it's stronger than it looked.
