I've followed the PTO vs. engine generator threads for about a year now and I think I'm leaning toward a PTO setup. However, something occured to me this weekend. How do you leave a tractor running a PTO attachment like this with safety interlocks? I have a TC 31DA and as soon as I leave the seat with PTO engaged it beeps and dies. I guess you could block / disconnect the seat switch but that seems a little like cheating. Is there any other method? This might swing a decision the other way :)

Check your owners manual on this, but most tractors have an override for this very reason. On my JD4110, you raise the seat and pull the seat switch UP to override it.

L3130 Kubota has some deal like ken said too, I think you get up before you ingage or something.

Yeah, they all have their process, otherwise you wouldn't be able to use a pto mounted chipper either.

cobbkevin,

Perform all of your 3 point and PTO shaft hookups.

Apply parking brakes firmly.

Set RPM's at minimum

Shift HST into Neutral

Tilt the seat forward, resting it on the steering wheel

Move the PTO control lever to engage the PTO

Set engine speed to required PTO output.

Stay away from the rotating shaft. Treat that area as if it were the propeller of an airplane, or the tail rotor of a helicopter.

I have a Tc34 and I can leave the seat with rear pto engaged. Transmission has to be in neutral and parking brake should be engaged, Alarm will sound for about 10 seconds and then stops beeping.
This is spelled out in owners manual for TC31/34. If above procedure doesn't work I would suspect one of the safety switches not working correctly.

Maybe I haven't let the beeping run long enough. If I remember from all the other 'activities' it seemed to beep a couple of seconds and then die. I assumed that each time it beeps I have to sit back down quickly to keep it running - I must be trained like Pavlov's Dog! ;)
I'll try tonight and see if it continues to run.
I understand the warnings, I especially stay in the seat when using my PHD. Things spinning around make me nervous, especially since human flesh won't even slow down diesel engine torque.
Thanks!

My Tc34 will beep twice and die if I leave the seat while the transmission is in gear but, if it is in neutral the beeping continues for several seconds and the engine continues to run if I forget to set parking brake or leave seat while REAR PTO is engaged.
Does not apply to Mid PTO. I do not believe you can dis-mount tractor while mid pto is engaged no matter if in neutral or not.
Page 2-7 in my owners manual outlines various conditions for PTO operations.
