Does anybody known of a 3pt spreader made for sand that will
go on a 30 hp Kabota. Ive found some that will spread salt but none
for just sand.
Thanks.

I use a basic cone spreader. It's not perfect but it was much cheaper than a Herd spreader (Herd Seeder - Seeders, Spreaders and Feeders) When the sand is wet I have to use a push stick to keep it flowing. I also keep the RPMs low to keep the spread pattern small so the sand stays on the driveway.

I agree with Mapmaker on the cone spreader. I mix sand with bermuda seed and usually use 100# of sand to 5# of seed. As long as the sand isn't wet it flows just fine. I've lived in the NE and sympathize with your need to sand your driveway....I used cat litter.

I am in the same boat....the dealer Reccomended the Herd but to the toon of about $1360 I didn't want to go that route. I have seen the cone spreaders and wondered if they would do the job. Problem is all the sand I will get is from the Town Hwy Dept which stores the sand outside for residents to use. So basically its wet or frozen....I am wondering if a reciever hitch mounted spreader on my pickup is a better way to go....

mapmaker, when you say "basic cone spreader" do you mean any thing that
will handle salt/sand or can I get away with a seed spreader?
By the way you must be in my area, Im in Waterford.

I use a King Kutter seeder/cone spreader. It worked great for me but the sand does stick a little. I too keep my RPM's low to keep the bulk of the sand on my driveway. I have to bounce the 3ph a little when the sand sticks to get it flowing.

I paid about $400 for mine. I don't mix salt in with my sand so hopefully it will last a lot longer. My driveway is 1800' long, steep, and icy.

Here's a photo of my set up.

Good luck.

Craig

Gordon,
Mine is just a fertilizer spreader. I picked it up used for $250 about 3 years ago. looks exactly like the one in hammys picture. (except mine is green) BTW I am about 35 or 40 miles south of you in Fairlee.

Hey guys thanks;
My driveway/road is a mile long but there are just a couple short hills
I need to sand some times like this winter. I get worn out using a hand shovel. A couple hundred sounds alot better than $1200. Thanks for the picture Hammy.

When I saw "3pt Sander" I thought it must be some kind of woodworking tool. I was trying to figure out how I was going to get the tractor into the living room to work on the floor... Never mind.
