I've had my B-2410 a couple of weeks now and have noticed the O rings on the FEL cylinders pop out when i extend the cylinders. I have pushed them in several times and they continue to come out. Is this normal? or a possible defect.

Titanic, I may be wrong, (won't be the first time) but I think those o-rings are there so the paint will not stick to the oil seal and the rod when painted. Once the paint drys they can be removed. Mine did the same thing and I just cut them off.

I believe they are there so the edge of the seal doesn't get distorted by hitting the rod end when you retract the ram.

The O ring on the center ram on my FEL (on a BX2200) does the same thing. I was told by the dealer that it was there to protect the cylinder from dirt. Would like to find out the real reason.

OB1, They can't hit the end, there is about 4" of rod left sticking out when fully retracted. I still think they are there so the paint won't stick to the seal and the rod. If this happens the seal could rip when the rod was moved out. Mine were stuck to the paint on two of the cylinders.

On some hydraulic cylinders, there is a felt wiper. These were to "wipe" the piston rod as it retracted, thus preventing abrasion of the sealing O-rings.
The application in which I saw this wasn't a tractor, but the princple should be the same.

It is just a plain rubber O ring. I understand what you are saying. That would make sense. Still not sure if the reason the dealer gave is correct

The guy that delivered my BX said they were put their to protect the seals while painting. There was no real reason for them to be there now, but no harm, either. I don't know if he's right about the reason, but the consensus seems to be that it doesn't indicate a problem.

This is a timely post. This weekend, during one of my breaks, my friend and I were wondering what they wer for. We came up with the same answer as some others - to protect the seal from paint overspray. CHeap, easy, and the right shape.

I will call the dealer and get his opinion before i cut them off. I will let ya know what he says.
It certainly makes scense they could be there for painting, but i want to be 100% before i cut them off. Thanks for the replies.
