I would also look at the Howard rotovators. I have had one for 30 years and never had any kind of problem.

As for the Baltimatic, it only tills to a depth of 5 inches and it is too narrow for my use. With a 90 hp mfwd tractor I am looking for something at least 84 inches wide.

Depends how big the rocks are and how rugged the tiller is. My Howard rotovator J has hit lots of rocks with no damage. Up to about 3 inches.

My tiller cost about $3000 in 1979. Howard makes 60" tillers from $2500 to almost $6000 today. The expensive ones are very heavy and rugged.

I've tilled up rocks the size of footballs with no problems save the noise with the CCM unit, and tires still wrapped around the original 1049's wheel with no ill effects except the noise and vibration. This is a good unit!!!

Those CCM units do look like a quality item for a resonable price.

Are you indicating that your CCM is noisy? Have you used other tillers to compare the "noise and vibration" to your CCM?

I don't mind some noise. It's broken tines or shafts that worry me.

Same here... what noise? And, what do you mean by "tires still wrapped around the original 1049's wheel with no ill effects except the noise and vibration."

I'm just not clear on what you're talking about.

When you till up old wheels with tire attached and cmu blocks and rocks honest to god the size of footballs---it makes noise!!!!!!!!

Kinda like when backing the brush hog into a huge stand of blackberries and reducing an old 55 gallon drum to about the size of a large lunch box---it was very noisy for a bit!!
