What gear do you run your tractor in and what speed do you run your pto while timming?

i run my TC33 in low gear. i push 2000-2200rpm to get max out of the hydro.

having my 2-14 setup right and clean helps a lot. i can get about 3.5mph out of it.

or did you mean a rototiller....

generally low gear (easyer to set the cruise) 1800-2000 rpm (almost 540 speed)

Personally, I always ran my tiller at the full 540 PTO speed and while I occasionally varied my speed a little bit with the hydrostatic transmission, it was generally approximately one mph.

Till as SLOW as you can go with the pto at rated rpm's. You will get better results by going slow and tilling the soil thoroughly. Gear tractor, 1st gear and Low on the aux trans . Hydro tractor,Low range and easy on the travel pedal.

If the ground is loose already I can rototill over 3 MPH breaking sod though it go pretty slow.

If you a breaking sod, spray the area to be tilled with round up 2-3 weeks before tilling. Works great.

New ground at least 2 passes. First pass till fast (3mph) to break up the large chunks. Couple days later, till slow (1mph - 1.5 mph) to powder it down and encorporate the organic matter. Till at 45 or 90 degrees to the first pass.

Slower is deeper.

Use 540 pto engine speed

I always till using the lowest gear I have and run Full throttle.
