Default Can you No-Till drill corn

Ive got a Great Plains 706 grain drill. Can you plant corn with this machine? Its a brand new machine. I know its mainly for grains but if i could plant corn as well that would be a big plus. Everthing I plant with this would be for wildlife.

Sure you can. The main issue would be if you have a row spacing that would be compatible with the combine corn header that will be taking off the crop. (Unless you are just going to run in some sweet corn for personal use.)
If the spacing is correct, you just have to block off the feed cups so the corn doesn't drop into them. We use duct tape for that purpose.
The other issue is if you plan to punch in a lot of acres, you are going to wear the drill out faster. The shoes and discs are costly so you don't want to be replacing them sooner than you need to. The other issue is soil type, if you need to run it into clay then you'll need a lot of extra down pressure (or weight) to get the corn down deep, unless you are not too worried about getting the corn in deep.

Thanks Mreeb,

the land is sandy so i'm not worried about it getting to deep. i am worried about getting it planted at the correct depth consistantly. i am also concerned about the corn getting cracked before getting drilled, i was hoping it would not be to big to go through.
