I wanted to say thank you for all the great posts on this topic:thumbsup:. I was really zeroing on a finish mower until I stumbled onto this topic. Never thought a flail would be the right choice or price. I just ordered a TM1900BSC from AgriSupply today for my new LS 4047H. I couldn't help but still buy a heavy rotory mower, just nothing like dropping that bad boy on some thick brush around our ponds.

I also use both flail and medium duty rotary. The flail can do it all alone but I like the rotary for backing into thick brush so the cutting is happening eight feet rather than three feet from the operator station.

Help in Greasing Alamo flail bearings.
I haven't been on this thread in a while -- amazing to see it is still going - - and interesting stuff.
I ended up buying an old Alamo 74 heavy duty flail mower as well as a 6 ft BAiley crop shredder for that ald quarry site I have been mowing (has hidden pipe, chain link fence, mattress, tires, logs, etc along with lots of old bricks).
Both mowers turned out to be really good, but the crop shredder is a bit trickier. I ended up mounting a mesh shield behind the cab (an idea I got from somewhere, maybe this thread)
Now I need some ifiguring out how to grease the Alamo bearings. The grease fittings accpt grease, but it immediately exudes from the sides of the bearing cover, and does not appear to go into the bearings. Any ideas on how to fix this? Do I need to remove the bearing cover and clean out old crude (old rusted bolts -- I'm trying to avoid this).
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I think that is your only choice. It could be that the bearings were replaced with sealed units and the PO didn't remove the seals prior to installation.

I agree with Brahmas, something is definitely wrong with your Alamo flailmower. I wonder if they installed sealed bearings by choice or?

About your Bailey crop shredder; do you have the wide scoop knives on it or the heavy hardened knives?

I hope they did not put the bearing(s) in backwards:ashamed:

Okay I got my new Caroni fail mower attached to my LS 4047 tractor, but ran into an issue with the 3pt attachemnt. The pins for the lifting arms are attached to the mower with two pins. Problem is I have to pull the front pin in order to get the mower to touch the ground. It looks like this should be fine, but I wanted to see if I am makinga big mistake... Any advice is appreciated

I don't understand what you're describing.

I know on my dad's Mahindra & my Kubota, the Caroni connects to both 3 point hitches at all3 connection points with no problems. Mowing with the Caroni can be done just right with it attached to either tractor.

Dang... I knew I should have taken a picture. There are four pins on the mower itself that are holding two levers. Those two levers connect to the lifting arms. If I leave both pins in, the levers can not move up or down and the mower never touches the ground. If I take one pin out of each lever, the mower will now touch the ground.

My question is if this is okay to remove the pin, and just have one per lever on the mower.

I can't recall these pins you describe & can't see them in any Caroni pics online (my dad's Caroni is at his place right now) ... but it sounds to me more like you need to adjust your 3 point hitch lower arms. Most, if not all, can be adjusted so their travel range is higher or lower. Yours sound like they're adjusted too high.

I'll get a picture tomorrow. My 4 other attachments all work fine.
