Flail Mower Let's talk flail mowers

That description sounds like the Mott finish knives on my Mott hammer flail. You will be able to see the direction they were ran and if it is the type knife I am thinking about, you can remove them and reverse them giving a new side to cut with... that type knife is not intended to cut wood... there is a much heavier hammer attachment to trim trees.
How wide is the cut on that mower? KennyV

34" if I remember correctly with a 9 foot side reach.

Newest addition!! Been looking at a finish and brush combo. After reading this thread made the plunge. Picked up the flail from ASC from Statesboro store on Sat. Hope to set up and try out by the weekend. Thanks for all the input.

$1920 out the door. It's the tm1900bsc caroni.

Drool, drool, drool. Sweeeeeeet! Post back after you get a chance to play with it a little. I'm willing to bet you won't regret the purchase.

That's nice. I'm jealous.

Let us know how it works.

Ok by fri afternoon got everything checked out, belts, grease, fluids. Pto shaft cut to length. Set all linkages like I wanted and tried a round. Set the lower arm hookup on the flail to float by pulling two pins. Went around the field, nothing rough its been mowed with a rotary. The wife likes to walk there and wants a cleaner trail. The difference is huge almost like I done it with a finish mower. Went to some rougher areas less than 2ft that started growing up since cleared it. Again it did a great job. Less noise more agile and better results. Now I need the adapters to help with the oil all over the gear box.

I was wondering if anyone knew if a 6ft flail mower would be to big for a sc2400? I don't know off hand what the pto rating is or what the lift capacity is for the 3pt. I'm thinking I would have to go kind of slow depending on what type of mowing I'm doing. I had looked at some 5ft ones awhile back but I wasn't able to purchase one at the time. I've came across an old Alamo 6ft one that looks like it might need some work and if I can get it for a decent price, I might come out ahead price wise instead of buying new. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I remember something about 5 HP per ft for a bush hog, but don't know if it would apply to flail mowers.

That's about right for a light/medium duty flail like the Caroni TM1900 especially if you are doing mostly field mowing and do the brush mowing slowly.
