Massey Ferguson 1552 Cab Model
My neighbor is looking to buy a grader for her gravel driveway (probably about 1000' long). She is a single mom who does pretty good for herself. She has a smaller 4WD Kubota, around 20 +/- HP. I had shown her the one I was looking into, the "Road Boss" but the dealer said it was too heavy for her tractor. They suggested this one:

A & B EAGLE LINE EQUIPMENT The Shield of Quality

I don't know anything about this company so I don't know what to tell her. To me, a heavier unit would work better...maybe the thing to do is for both of us to go in on the Road Boss together and I'll just grade her driveway now and then with my larger (33 hp Massey Ferguson 1433) tractor.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

I have a 1433 and a 6' road boss
the road boss really does rock, it's amazing
but honestly the 6' is a little much for the 1433, it would be better with a 5' one. Sometimes that 6' is all the 1433 can handle.

But it really does work.

Hello road boss I looked at the road boss grader and had a couple of questions for yea.
1. That front toothed cutting edge looks nice but looks like it might get damaged easily have you had any trouble with it getting bent teeth when hitting rocks?

2. I was thinking about building one and having scarifiers in front like on a BB and then two angled flat blades behind them to smooth everything out. What do you think would work better?

2.Approx height of the sides?

3.how much did it cost?

Well, here is the latest scoop. I spoke with my neighbor and I told her my fear was that the cheaper lighter one would not work as well as the Road Boss. The short story is she is going to buy a 5' Road Boss to use behind my tractor. I will grade her driveway for her when she needs it and I can use it for mine as well. When she upgrades her tractor to something larger she'll take it back (but still will let me use it if/when I need it)

The good thing is we will be able to test the unit out on her driveway before she buys it. She spoke on the phone to the owner of the Road Boss company (Mr. Don Krause) and he said that she should be able to try it. She mentioned that the local distributor was hesitant to do that for her and Don replied "he'll do it and if he doesn't I'll bring one to your house from Texas myself!" That's some confidence in your product right there!

Anyway; I'll give you all a report once we test it; probably in early May.

He sounds like my kind of guy. May I ask the price of the grader?:D

Yeah, it's pretty cool
He dragged one out from Texas for me and we hooked it up and away we went on the road.
It's about a convincing demo as you can get.
Does it work with your tractor on your road.
If so, then it's worth buying, if not, nothing lost.

OK, the grader was delivered today and I performed a test. The short answer is the Road Boss performed awesome! My neighbor had some very badly washed out areas, after 3 passes up and down they were all leveled off nicely. I am sure a few of these areas will crop up as trouble areas for a while until things get packed in better and firmed up but it will be easy to maintain and I believe it will just get better the more we use it.

I have a 7 footer and if I don't set it to deep my FWD kubota L2350 25 horse with turfs will grade the drive I think a FWD 20 horse will pull the 5 footer just fine. Just drop it and go!!!!
