Hey folks,

Looking to buy a tiller. Our garden is a little under 1/2 acre, but we plan to expand a little so I'd like to be able to work up to an acre. Soil has pretty high clay content but we only till in the spring, so it won't be rock hard.

My local JD dealer offered me a 665 w/ iMatch bushings and 4 months no interest/no pmts for $2600 delivered.

I'm pretty sure this is a good tiller but $2600 is more than I was hoping to pay.

Anyway my biggest question is am I paying way too much for a green tiller, or is the 665 more durable than the competition and worth the money? I want this thing to last.

What other tillers should I be looking at for my tractor size and plot size?

Thanks everyone,

Nathan

Nathan, going by what you said, I'd look at the roto tillers northern tools carries, are they JD quality, nope, but if its going to sit in the shed 11 months out of the year why put a bunch of cash in a name brand? They have a couple for less than half of the JD . The PTO ratings for them are listed there also.

^^^^^^^^^^^^

What he said too!!!

The KK's are probably the best value out there, hands down. Maybe not as pretty as the JD, but they are yellow. But, more importantly, they're just as rugged, if not more so, as the tiller you're looking at, for 1/2 the price, or less. You'll wear out before the tiller will with your plot. And, they're made in the USA (of both US and foreign parts)... which I don't think the JD's are...(made in Italy) but I could be wrong on that.

Nathan OR:

The gear driven KKII appears to be one of the better quality KK products. I have no complaints with my gear driven CCM M-160 tiller. Just get a tiller wider than your tire width. Jay

Thanks for the advice.

Our local Coastal farm supply has a 5' TG-60-Y KKII for ~$1850. I think they are going on sale next week, I don't know how much though. Took a look at one today, the build looks similar in strength to the JD, and gear driven. Nice.

Has anyone tried putting iMatch bushings on the KKII tiller? What's a good price for the TG-60-Y?

I just bought one for $1399 plus tax. It was a leftover from last year and the dealer was selling it at last year's price. $1850 sounds a little steep to me, even for this year's price.
