I bought an Agrice AFMJ 70 tiller off my brother IL and dont have a manual.
I searched the forums to find the wieght of the oil for the chain bath but cant find how much. There is a fill plug on top and a drain near the bottom and about
half way up the chain cover. Being young and inexperienced i figured one of the wiser people out there could give me a recommendation on how high to fill it. I am trying to get my lot tilled up before the spring grass planting season is over and dont have time to get a manual right now. I'm sure someone has some piece of equipment that would have the same set up and know an amount of oil to put in it.. I'm guessing dump it in the top till it starts to flow out the middle.
Any recommendations appreciated. I can get pics later if that helps.
thanks

I'd say your plan of pouring gear oil in at the top and stopping when it spills out the hole halfway up, is a good one !

The chain cover has 3 plugs. The one at the top is the vented fill plug. The one in the middle is used to check the tension on the chain. The lowermost plug is the full plug. To fill the chain housing, remove the top and lowermost plug. Pour the oil in the top until it comes out the lowermost hole. Replace both plugs. remove the middle plug and check the chain tension.
The bolts on the bottom of the chain cover must be loosened (or removed) to drain the oil or an oil drain pump can be used.

A better way to apply the proper chain tension is:
1. Raise the tiller off the ground.
2. Disconnect the PTO shaft at the tractor so you can spin the tines by hand.
4. Back out chain tension bolt so tines can spin freely by hand.
3. Spin the tiller tines by hand checking for "freeness".
4. Tighten the chain tensioner bolt until the tines become harder to spin by hand.
5. Back out the chain tensioner bolt 1 turn and set lock nut.
Chain should now be at propper tension.

By the way, a good place for replacement parts is DN Equipment. They have tines, chaines, sprokets, chain covers, etc.

I have an owner's manual for my AL50 at the office. I e-mailed Agric and they e-mailed the manual to me. I will download it to this post on Monday.

thanks for the help rocking g. i'll set it up tomorrow and see how it works. It seems pretty old but looked more heavy duty than other brands and for 700 bucks it was better than a new one and i'm sure will pan out better than the grey rice patty models.

Hopfenmuller,
I have the manual on my computer at the office. I cannot download to this forum because of the size - I even tried to zip it. I have to send it to you personal e-mail tomorrow morning.

Good Buy! I have an Agric 65. 80/90 in gear box. watch for leaks inside as there is a seal that can go bad. the other end is a greased bearing. Tough units, I run mine on a B7800, almost too big for it but she handles it ok. Be careful when backing up so you don't damage the flap in the rear. If the chain comes unhooked and you don't notice it you can bend the heck out of it.:(

Rockin G,

I was wondering if you happen to still have the manual for the AFMJ 70 Tiller? if you do could you please send a copy to my email: biggmannn411@aol.com

also had a question with your fill instructions...

judging from your instruction, it would seem, that the oil capacityl that this part of the implement requires is about 1/2 quart or less, is this correct?
i guess i can wait for the manual and see if this answers my questions. Praying you still have it!
thanks in advance!
