I used my brush grubber for the first time today and I'm happy to report that it works as advertised.
The brush grubber is a clamp used to pull up to three inch trees out of the ground - roots and all. I know you can use logging chains, but how do you attach to the tree? With the grubber you just spread the jaws.
The maker recommends cutting the tree to a foot from the ground first so it doesn't come down and hit you. I used a twenty foot chain and sure enough the small top branches hit me!
I had some problem getting the jaws off the tree but hitting the clamp with a rubber mallet solved that.

I just ordered one from Northern Tool. Think it was about half what the site you listed is asking. Looking forward to giving it a try.

ragkar, what variety of trees are you extracting? One thing I learned long ago about removing trees with a come along, leaving a reasonable amount of trunk heighth gives you much more leverage when pulling down. If I were to buy a brush grubber, I would calculate the length of chain I would need to attach at least 10 -15 ' high, climb a ladder, and clamp on. However, before doing that, I would take my loader, and push down all around the circumference of the tree in order to loosen some roots.

acohen100 good find but $45 vs $60. I would have bought tit from them. Here's a link

achingback I think you're right. Leaving a three or four foot stub would provide more leverage than the recommended one foot.

I see that seven reviewers at NT give it a 4.7 out of 5 rating. The only grumbles are that the wife has troubles spreading the jaws and a guy that says that it wouldn't work too well with deep tap root trees. They're both right.

For everyone else, if you use this be sure to clamp onto your tractor very low or you'll have leverage that pulls your front wheels off the ground. But you knew that.
