I decided the last thread was getting a bit "long in the tooth" so decided to open a new thread on this specific question.

TL1500 was delivered last Friday and mowed on Saturday. So far very happy. Main issues are operator related, since I've only mowed with a mid mount mower to this point.

The oil leak that others have mentioned is very strange though. Mower came filled with oil to what appeared to be the appropriate level by checking the dip stick. After only mowing for approximately 1 hour, a significant amount of oil had come out and leaked all over the mower. Easily 3 ounces.

It seems everyone feels this is fairly normal. Has anyone considered replacing the stock breather cap w/ a more normal solid plug? I presume this has been considered and summarily dismissed?

Probably has to be vented in some form or fashion and it sounds like the plug is also the vent. Just a guess though.

In the other thread, it was suggested to add a short pipe nipple with bushing to prevent the overflow.

This oil bubbling out thing is an odd "feature" of the Caroni but it doesn't seem to hurt anything (though it looks messy). There seem to be two acceptable solutions. One is to not add any oil until it stops bubbling over and then to consider that the appropriate amount of oil to have in the gearbox. The second is to add the 2 inch pipe extension for the breather cap. I've been using plan A.
