Box Scraper Box Blade - good deal?

NEW 4' Box Blade Scraper 6 Yr. WARRANTY 4 Scarifiers HD - eBay (item 230248091505 end time May-06-08 11:14:50 PDT)

I can get one of these that is 5', brand new off craiglist for $350.
There's no brand name on these things so I'm thinking = cheap...

But I only really have $350 to spend and it's going to get light use, my
gravel driveway and motocross track, which is nice loamy dirt, no rocks
or roots. I'm wondering if, for my causes, I'd need hinged back, as this doesn't have one. Thanks for any input.

Welcome. I would keep looking on craigslist. You can find a nicer one for $350. I am going to pick up a land pride 6' box blade tomorrow for $400. You can get a better deal if you look a bit more. In fact you can get a new one for $400 at tractor supply, probably King Kutter, and maybe cheaper if you wait for a manager's special.

Sometimes people have a high estimate of the value of these things on the internet. Usually, they go cheaper at a farm equipment auction with more to pick from. Just have to wait for an auction --and don't overbid.

Welcome to the forum. What size tractor do you have? A 4’ boxblade will only cover the tire tracks on the smallest tractors and you want a blade that will. The hinged backs on some box blades do help smooth somewhat but you can do the same with the fixed back blades once you get the hang of adjusting the top link properly.

I see in addition to the $315 min. bid, it has a $125 S&H fee. For just under $440 I bought the 5' KK @TSC.

My dad got there to pick up the land pride box blade this morning, it was a seven footer, not six. Figured no reason to haggle, paid the $400 and ran.
