Let me start by stating that this endeavor will only be for play not really need. That said, I have been looking for a small cheap/old baler for my Kubota L285 (30 hp gross engine, 26.5 max PTO hp). I will not be pulling a wagon and am only looking to play with on my own 5 acres of pasture grass so I can go slow if needed. Searches on this and other forums have led me to believe a John Deere 14T baler would be my best option, but I have not found one yet. Today I did find a New Holland 66 baler close to my house that appeared to be in decent shape.

Questions:
a) Is the NH 66 a good baler?
b) any weaknesses to check for?
c) average value of a NH 66 in decent shape?
d) Would the NH 66 be a good fit for my low HP tractor, or would the JD 14T be a better fit for my low hp needs?

thanks for all opinions,

John Deere 24T is probably more available in working condition than a 14T...

I would check to see what type of farm equipment junk yards are around. AC, Case, OLiver and IH all made good balers back in the 50s early 60s. Can you find one that is working and what is it worth? The 14 T will auction between 250 or so and 500, is that a working machine, well the owner is dead and the machine is for sale? If you buy a 50 plus year old baler you will need parts.
As far as brand if it works then it works if not leave it alone.

I would buy the newest machine possible, <20 years old.
