I have a Kubota BX24, and am looking for some advice on the best way to adjust a grade and/or regrade a dirt road....I would like to fix grade in the backyard to remove a slope, and occasionally have the need to regrade a dirt roadway. Any thoughts on whether a box blade, rear blade or something else would be the best way to do this?

For an established driveway, I would use a landscape rake with gauge wheels. That is what I use and it works very well distributing material and filling in holes. You can also use a regular box blade to do the same thing or you can purchase a dedicated 3 pt grader (which is basically a modified box blade type design) that is designed for driveways.

This is one example, there are many - (Road Boss Grader - Road and Landscape Grading, Surfacing and Leveling, and Material Spreading and Reclamation).

A box blade also works well to redistribute material, like cutting down a birm as you mentioned. If you are looking to purchase just one attachment, I would get the box blade.

I'd use a rear blade but it must have gauge wheels to work properly.:D

I use my BX23 and A BX1500 with a front blade and tiller on it.

There are lots of ways to deal with your road.
Personally, I use a boxblade for everything I do since I don't have a rear blade nor road grader. Like was said above, you can "dress up" a dirt road pretty good with a landscape rake and do an even better job of grading with a road grader, but they fall short when you want to cut or move a lot of dirt. The rear blade can do the cutting and moving, but finishing with it is a little harder to get it really smooth. The boxblade is my choice because it's so versatile. I use it for many other things as well. Here's a couple of recent threads about this very discussion.

I have a boxblade with rippers. About the only thing I use it for is making water channels.

I have a landscape rake which I use to bring up the rock on the road in the summer.

The vast majority of my road and dirt work is done with a regular rear blade. I use the cutting edge to cut in the berm and and pull rock out of the grass. I then turn the blade around and use the back side to spread and smooth. It does not leave ripples like the cutting edge. Works well with dirt also.

If the budget limits you to one tool, I would get the rear blade first. If you can afford all three, they all have a purpose.

I vote for the box blade, it's the one I have and well it works well for me, it is the only one I have so it better work.
