CDSdad, thanks I didn't think that the Landpride looked bad, and face it the salesman will sell what he has (which is a woods).

I also have the 84" LandPride finish mower. With 35 HP the tractor doesn't even know its there. I've now started using it with a quick hitch. What's the problem? If it needs to be lifted and your front end gets light, put some freaking front weights on it. The real problem with large mowers and small tractors is the overlap: How do you efficiently space the mowed lanes to avoid cutting grass that's just been cut? That's the time and fuel savings...

My Kubota dealer said he sold me a perfectly good L3240 that would work with that mower, and to not even attempt to use the BX1500. I like the Landpride price at $1725 but was wondering if it's worth another $300 to go to a woods mower? Any suggestions, I am mowing 6 acres of flat land in grass and weeds.

I do most of my mowing with a Woods PRD7200 (72" rear discharge finish mower) on my L3240HST. No regrets spending a few dollars more for a Woods mower. Rough cutting is with a slip-clutch equipped Woods BrushBull 60.

I have a Landpride 2572 model that I pull with the Case DX40. Love the mower...I think it is high quality as well. I am not sure how it compares to the 1672 model. I paid $2130 for that mower a year ago. THe only thing I dislike are the wheels. They are too narrow and can tear my grass up if going to fast HOWEVER my ground is very sandy and I am not sure anything would help except for 4" plus tire width. Have fun looking at the toys!

Phil,

Just curious why you use a 60" cutter on your 3240 instead of a 72"? I thought a 72" cutter would just overlap the tire tracks........ and a 60" cutter would be inside the tire tracks?

The 2572 is heavier duty than the 1672. It was one I looked at when buying, also. It was $700 more than the 1672.

Hey Stu,

Much of the brush cutting I do is in wooded area. Spend a lot of time in reverse, pushing the mower into tight spots between trees. The 60" BrushBull helps keep the time behind my DR BrushCutter (30") to a minimum.

If a field has one year or less of no mowing, first cut is with BrushBull 60, then PRD7200 for successive cuts. (small trees are pulled) If trees are too big to pull, it's backhoe ($$$) time. I'm quick to decide a job is too big/rough/difficult for me and my equipment. (cherry-pick according to mood, season, etc... )

The 5 PTO HP per foot of rough-cut mower (rule-of-thumb) works for me. Also use a Ford 501 sicklebar (7' / 84") mower to cut a bit of hay... most of my "attachments" are older than my tractor.

I use a Buhler (farm King) 84" behind a AGCO ST30 (basically a massey 1428) 28.4 engine horsepower i beleive. and i have no problem, I only mow the grass in the yard and i use my 5' rough cut mower for anything over probably 6 inches. the tractor will lift the mower alright but i rarely lift it because the front end gets light without the loader on, usually i dont even hook up the toplink.

I have a BX1500 and the Landpride 6' RFM deck. I do not use them together. Don't think the BX will handle it. Had a B7800 which I used the RFM on and the RFM would sometimes swing the B when I would make a turn going down hill and turning back up. I traded B7800 to a L3240 last week and use the RFM on it. I do have rough yard and hillside. The 6' Landpride RFM seems to match the L better and sometimes strains it going up a steep hill. Have to drop it down to low low. The BX1500 is a great mowing tractor but not heavy or strong enough for that mower, in my opinion.
