I have a 5' King Kutter finishing mower. I have noticed the quality of cut has gone down hill since getting it. I have been pretty good at keeping the underside scraped clean and the blades sharp, but the quality went down anyway. Does anyone know if I can get a high lift(suction) blade for it? I know KK does not make one, but I would expect a blade from another manuf should fit given it's the right length and right size hole. Has anyone done this yet and know about fit?

Check your belts, they may simply be loose and they are slipping. You may need to adjust them, consult your owners manual for procedure.

Agri supply (1-800-345-0169) sells replacement blades including Gator Mulcher Blades. I've seen them at the JD dealer too. Wonder how they would work?

Chris, I suppose some people must like the Gator blades, but when I had a Cub Cadet lawn tractor, I let a salesman talk me into buying Gator blades for it. They only cost me about twice as much as OEM blades and they weren't as good. In fact, it didn't take me long to throw them away and go buy another set of OEM blades. My brother-in-law and a neighbor also bought them for their riding mowers. None of us will ever buy them again.

Doing some digging. Landpride 5' mowers come with medium lift blades and have High lift blades and mulching blades available. I am going to check out a local place to see if the blades are compatible (I can't imagine them being too different). If so, I may go for the mulching blades and see how it goes. I will report back what I find out.

Thanks Bird. Like I said I saw them at the JD dealer and they looked interesting. They even make left handed blades for my Woods RM 59. Now I can put them out of my mind.

Can't comment on Gator, but I've also tried Silver Streak, and found similar results. Just didn't compare with either the hardness or strength (and ability to spring back to their original shape) when hitting something like a rock. My mower and hog are Woods and I swear by the Woods brand of blades. Dad's got a King Kutter and I do most of his sharpening. Believe me, KK's blades take a licking as well. I'd stick with the OEM's, whether they cost more or less.
