We are working on cleaning up old windbreaks with downed timber. Locust and elm mostly. The branches have been on the ground for a couple of years. There's a good amount, but it's dry. We've been looking at chippers for the project and we're seriously looking at the Wallenstein BX42 chipper. Any suggestions on whether this is the right chipper for the job?

Also, anyone have experience with a Goosen chipper?

Thanks for your help.

That chipper would definitely do the job up to 4" material. What size tractor are you planning to use it on?
I used my friends bx42 on my Mahindra 2015, (17.5 PTO horsepower). I thought it was pretty impressive, and it would've been even better if I had a couple more ponies to run it. Only the really big (4") hard stuff slowed the tractor down, and I only had it stall once.
Another chipper to take a look at is the Salsco 624. That chipper does 4.5" material, and the website says it only takes 16 PTO HP to run it. I think that's because it has 2 blades instead of 4, and it doesn't feed quite as fast. Nice unit though.

I have a Goossen, It's a very well built machine. I am very happy with it.

I purchased the BX42 last year and have given it some hard work. Last week we chipped some 4" hickory, 2" apple and 4" cherry. It was sold for BBQ chips and looked great and smelled even better when cooking.

The thing I like about the BX42 is that it nearly self feeds - and that is without the costly hydraulic.

We have been very happy with the Wallenstein and would recommend it highly.

I have a BX-62 which is its big brother...I looked real hard at the BX-42...Both are excellent machines that need almost NO attention other than to use them...:D

Thanks for all of the feedback. We decided to order the BX42 today from Iowa Farm Equipment. We'll let you know in the next couple of weeks how it performs.

driver444, we are putting it on a Kioti CK30, which is a diesel tractor with 30 hp, 23 hp at the PTO. From the info I've received, we should be good to go with the tractor and the setup.

Again, I appreciate all of the feedback.
