JD 955
Here's my situation. Ball fell out of lift arm on 3 point hitch, category 1 hitch on compact tractor. (JD 955, 33HP) Fell out while mowing, nowhere to be found. I need to till an acre to get some corn in the ground QUICK! My tiller is a King Cutter 5'. I've got a brand new Mahindra 7520 category 2 hitch (75 HP) in the shed, waiting to make hay. Do I:

1) switch pins on mahindra to acceppt tiller. (I'll be gentle, I promise!)

2) Have new end welded on existing lift arm

3) Buy new lift arm from JD for $235?

I don't want to destroy my tiller, but time is of the essence! What would you do?

The BEST thing to do would be to buy a new lift arm. You could go ahead and use the tiller on the Mahindra to get the job done quickly. I have used a tiny middle buster on my big Kubota and it worked fine. Of course if I had hit something it would've bent in two. I would NOT recommend welding a new end on the lift arm. That would be bound to fail at the most inconvenient time, doing damage to either tractor and/or implement, and void warranty on both! Just my opinion. Good luck!

CONVERSION BUSHING LIFT ARM CAT 1 & 2 - Agri Supply

Buy some bushings so that Cat#1 will fit a Cat#2, does the tiller have a slip clutch? If you are worried, use it. Have you tilled the area before? are there rocks and roots?? If you tilled the area before and know that it's clean... go ahead and use it.

The bushings are a lot cheaper than welding...

Weld a new end on.. that's why they sell them.

using a cat 1 implement on a cat 2 machine leads to making pretzles.

I had a problem where the cat I pin was not replaceable and the bushing adaptor sleeve was too short. I welded 2 bushings together and pinned it to the implement pin.

Thanks for the advice folks! Turns out Mama Deere sells the ball. A little pricey at $35, but still the cheapest of all the other options. My closest dealer , an hour away, even had 1 in stock! Got everything replaced and hooked up, and it started raining again. After last year, I'm trying really hard not to complain about rain, but it's getting hard to keep my mouth shut.

Will UPS ship rain? ;) I'd be more'n happy to send you a few million gallons.

Last fall, we were (depending on who's numbers you read) anywhere from 10" to 12-1/2" below normal average yearly rainfall. Now, we're (again, depending on who's numbers) anywhere from 12" to 14" ABOVE normal year to date. We've had several days where 4" to 6" fell. And it seems to rain AT LEAST every 3 or 4 days. It's been 4 days now, and no rain in the forecast until tuesday. I'm headed home today to start cutting alfalfa. If THAT doesn't cause it to rain, I don't know what will.
