Default what brand is this Rotary Cutter?

Hello, friend of mine "loaned" me his rotary cutter last Fall, before I used it I checked the gear box, no oil!!, topped it off with some 90W oil I had and used it once, worked great but a little scary hitting rocks in the brush.

Anyways he does'nt seem to be in a hurry to take it back so I want to "refurbish it" for Spring cutting.

1) Any idea what brand this is?

2) What type of oil should be used in the gear box?

3) The top collects water in the squares, is it a bad idea to drill some drain holes?

4) Is this the correct shear bolt? and where do I get replacements?

1. Appears to be a Howse "medium duty". (you can tell by the angle iron grid on top of the deck)

2. Any gear oil. If it leaks too bad, squirt some grease into it. That will help slow down the leaking, but not stop it.

3. I suppose that would be OK. Maybe add some tar or epoxy to prevent the hole from rusting out.

4. No idea. Shear bolds are usually dead soft... in other words, they should not have the 3 or 5 lines on the head indicating grade 5 or grade 8 bolts.

I just use "made in china" bolts
Them suckers are SOFT
they shear right away (which is the whole point of it) and a lot cheaper than the "approved" shear bolt

The brand name is visable in the 2nd photo.... International. NOT the same International as International Harvester. They're a mid-grade, medium duty mower that's very popular in this area. That one appears to be a light-to-medium duty gearbox.

My Bush Hog 286 has holes in several potential water trapping areas. Those holes deal with the situation just fine.

Don't know what it is but I have a ton of gearboxes to pick from if you need a new one.
