Seeders Landpride solid stand 72" seeder - Question about uses!!

Hello,
I have a question about a seeder I might buy. It is a "solid stand seeder" 5 years old, my question is will it be acceptable to plant brome and Alfalfa hay or do I need a different implement? The price is $1700, in excellent condition. Comments are requested.

I questioned a Landpride rep (at the National Farm Machinery SHow in Louisville Kentucky) about that particular seeders ability to handle alfalfa seed. It MIGHT be able to handle alfalfa mixed with grass seed, but alfalfa seed alone is very small and the seed metering ability of the Solid Stand seeder won't work with alfalfa only.

That is a FANTASTIC price if that seeder is in anything like good condition. Even if you can't use it, I'd buy and re-sell it. OR Buy it and let me take it off your hands (at cost ) It's worth a good bit more than the price you quoted.

I'm nearly certain this is intended for fluffy-type grass seed and not intended for small alfalfa or timothy seed. I have owned them before but cannot recall. Check the owner's manual on the internet.
BUT, last year I bought some "coated" alfalfa that would not meter correctly through my Brillion alfalfa seeder but did JUST FINE through the back "grass seed" box.
In this case, with coated seed, I believe the Landpride would work fine. I would call the company but it never hurts to have a grass seeder and packer like that one.

I have a 72" landpride seeder. I was going to plant about about 2 acres of alfalfa for deer hunting but the rain won't stop long enough. I bought the alfalfa seed at a store that only sells seed. I asked the owner and he said that seeder should be perfect for that. Haven't tried it yet but am afraid the season maybe getting too late. I have tried many different grass mixes as well as milo. So far good luck. I bought mine 3 years ago at an auction and it was only used once. Like new for $2000 and thought that was a great price. $1700 is well below half price. When I last checked a few years ago, I thought they were about $4000.

Thanks for the replies. I put a deposit down and have downloaded the manuals. I know it does not have a PTO, but cannot determine the exact model number. I will pick it up tomorrow, thats when I will see it for the first time. Trying to gues its weight, I am estimating about 1500#, does that sound right?
Finally, I assume that this implement will work best when the dirt is fully worked and prepped, as opposed to overseeding.

The landpride web site says 1165# for the current model of the 72" primary seeder which is the same seeder I own. Add another 100-200 lbs with seed.
Yes, the dirt needs to be worked and prepped. I usually prep it with my tiller, then immediately seed. Mine is driven by the rollers on the seeder. It takes about 1-2 seconds for the seed to hit the ground when the rollers start engaging the surface. Don't leave any skips between passes. It is very noticeable later. I tend to overlap a little with each pass.
