I purchase a Rhino TW-60 brush hog about 2 1/2 yrs ago and I went to check the gear oil this season for the first time and noticed it looks like it's milky and has accumulated water or moisture in it. I figure I should drain it and fill it back up so I see 2 plugs on the top of the gear box.....one is obviously just a fill plug and one looks like a dip stick with an air vent on top of it. Then I start looking at the manual and it's really vague and looks like it's not really specific to this model, just a general knowledge type reference. It shows that the box should have a plug on the side to take out to check the fill level. Well it doesn't have that plug on the side of the box. I don't see any plugs for checking or draining. I suppose this dip stick/vent tube is for checking the oil level but i'm wondering how to drain it??? Haven't looked under it yet but would it be possible that the drain plug is under the bottom of the brush hog????? Hope someone has one of these and can help out, it'd be appreciated. Also can I use just regular 80-90w gear oil in it?????

You can use a suction gun to pull the fluid out via the vent hole.

The Rhino TW60 Manual is available on the Rhino site.
Rhino TW60 Owner Manual

See section 5-2 for lubrication types/specs.

"Recommended lubricant is NLGI-000, Sun 740-A EP, Mobil EP023, Gulf EP023 Grease, or equal."

I would suggest checkingnyour local auto parts or Ag supply for the proper type.

SkunkWerx,

Thanks for the reply and the link. I have that exact same manual that came with it but it shows a different diagram than what I have. I did see the grease recommendations that you listed. I'm not familiar with those, didn't know if they are something special that may be different than just regular 80-90w gear oil or not.
