Fogle's is in Neeses, SC. Opps...the phone number I gave looks wrong, glad you replied! Looks like it is 803-259-7016.

fogles equipment, loc: Neeses, S Carolina - Google Maps

PS...I wonder what kind of a deal he would offer for 2 planters????

Funny, I've lived in SC most of my life from Charleston to Columbia to Rock Hill and I've never heard of Neese's. I see that it is just south of North.:D (My wife went to school in Due West).:D

Give him a call and see what he'd take for a two-fer.

The original Cole Planter Company failed a few years ago and the remaining assets were bought by Covington Planter. The units are now made in china and retail around $1,000 earch, bare bones.
The China planters seem to have closer tolerances but the paint isn't very good and they rust quickly. I have a two row Cole planter that I like because of the fertilizer hoppers on it but the seed plates are expensive and not very accurate. It has a "runner" type shoe.
If I could find a two-row JD 71 with fertilizer hoppers I would be tempted to buy it and sell the Cole units.
The best use for the Cole is that it will plant a large seed such as a pumpkin with surprising accuracy and reliability.

How about a cross breed? I'm thinking about adding a pair of these (Cole "McNifty" fert. hoppers) to my Deere #70 2-row planter. Also planning on using a pair of Massey Ferguson disc openers to place the fertilizer consistantly at a depth just below seed placement and 2" to 3" to one side.

Cole McNifty

The McNifty is a gravity feed thing and it can be very annoying and inconsistant. A better idea is to find on old ground-drive/geared Cole unit that works (few spare parts avail) and adapt it. Use the side-dress fertilizer shoes available from Agri-Supply ($27?) in the Carolinas. I did.
I used an old Ford culltivator and apapted an old John Blue tobacco fert unit to it. See my posts and photos under "cultivator with side dress fertilizer attachment" Search for it as i posted a week or so ago .
It works great for side dressing of N and the Cole planter unit puts down 19-19-19 @ planting. If I got some JD 71's with no fertilizer unit I figure I could broadcast the P and K with some N before planting and then sidedress the N at 6" and 12" corn height but I don't like this as much as a dry fert unit built into the planter.
We need some dry fertilizer and planter unit suggestions. Anyone?

I am located in North Dakota. I have sold quite a few JD 71 planters or planter units to deer hunters and gardeners all over the place. Shipping on a two row planter is 250-400 completely assembled and ready to go-delivered to a business address. I just sent one to Maryland and it was 358 for shipping. If anyone needs parts for these planters I have them also.

Has anyone ever heard of a Covington TP45? I found one for $350 in working order with a corn plate. Is this a fair Price?

Hi Sunspot...FarmWithJunk is the person to ask about that model. He knows about the different models of planters. If he does not reply, send him a PM.

Sounds like a good price. I recently priced new and they were around $1400. Parts in my area are plentiful for these units.

I have sold over 1000 of the Cole B51-031 gravity drop side dressers (McNiffity) and have yet to have1 clog up. They also have capabilities of front or back mount with auto shut off built in and 100 lb capacity $335 each. Ken Sweet
