I am interested in purchasing a new Bush Hog 297 rotary mower. I am not yet certain as to whether I want a single wheel or the dual wheel on the back. What are they selling for in your neck of the woods?? Thanks.

I haven't priced the 297 as I don't need one that big, but it is nice. I have priced the SQ172 which is light to medium duty and is going for anywhere from $1450 to $1800. I would assume the 297 would go for around $3000 as it is heay duty and 7ft wide. As in single or dual wheel I would go for the dual as it wil be a little more stable for cutting uneven ground and it is 7inches shorter that the single. might not be much but a couple of inches seems like a couple miles in saving space. Good luck with whatever you get.

I've seen them between $3,200-3,500 around here in SC. been keeping my eye out in the local trader paper for a used one that someone bought and realized it was either "too big for their tractor" or either "they used it a couple of times and don't have a need for it anymore". sometimes they're practically GIVING it away for what they paid for it. I saw a 2007 JD MX7 being sold last week for $2,800 and they guy MIGHT have used it twice, I stress the word "might" too. if I had anything to hook it to, I would have bought it fast as I could hangup the phone with him after telling him I'm coming to get it. you don't see many bush hog medium duty mowers for sale, see a fair share of Squealers though.

Agreed. Unless someone buys a 297 and it ends up being a little too large for their tractor, they are probably going to keep it until it is worn out. And, from what others tell me that takes a long time.

Man these prices are killing me! As a reference, I priced a Bushog 287 in two separate dealers at $3,080. This is medium duty model, not heavy duty like the one youre' interested. As comparison, a Squealer SQ184 is going for about $2,500 with out delivery. I'm in NY state, roughly an hour from the city, maybe thats the going rate for the area. Not sure what I'll do, but will likely go with the 287, tough to find anything used thats not a beat up mess.
