Is it neccessary to have a FEL fitted to a tractor to be able to work a BH
properly. Is the loader needed to help stabilize the tractor.

Depends on the BH, tractor size and many different things. The FEL will help stabilize the tractor while the BH is being used. Also there will be a lot of weight hanging off the back end, which in turn will make the front end very light, unless you load it up with weights.

With my Jinma 200LE the FEL is needed for balance and to move the dirt I dig up.

YES! Especially with these smaller tractors.

I agree. It's needed mostly for ballast so in theory you could add other forms of counterweight but in practice it is hard to replace a 700-1000 lb hunk of ballast projected that far forward. Also, if needed, the bucket can be positioned to serve as an anchor to prevent the BH from dragging the tractor backwards as you dig. Finally, there are not too many BH operations that can be completed without using the bucket/FEL to either move whatever it is you are digging (stump, rock, dirt) or to clean up the mess you've created by filling, leveling etc.

I have had may FEL off the ground more times than I can count when using the BH on my JD 650. Many times like to jar the teeth right out of your head.

Why would anybody want a BH w/0 a loader .?
There are many people with loaders and no Back Hoes but few folks with Back Hoes and no loaders ! ! !

I don't think a dealer will or can sell a CUT with a BH and no FEL.

I would agree 100%. Those would be my top 3 reasons, Ballast, Anchor, and back fill. Just dug a huge hole this weekend with my BH, was glad to have the FEL more than once.

There have been backhoe-only installations sanctioned by the manufacturer in the past for full sized utility and industrial tractors. It required a front mounted weight box to accomodate the required counterweight. That said, I agree with the others who recommend against it, for all their reasons and a couple of more.
