Hello everyone!

Would appreciate your advice.

Stumbled upon a used PTO DR chipper - it's a 4.5" model, top discharge (has the top chute). Looks like new they are asking about $2300 for this unit with free shipping right now.

This would be coupled to my JD 2305. I would use it for just regular residential use - my place has lots of trees and some of them are 50 year old birches that are beginning to fade.

Looks to be in great shape from the pictures - still need to take an up-close look and see what shape the blade and such is in. Plan to do that on Friday.

I know this isn't the heaviest duty unit, looks like folks are comparing it to the Mackissic - but this one has no shredder which is OK by me. I have a stand-alone Bearcat chipper/shredder that has an 8hp engine on it - it's OK but it's older, it's a pain to lug around the yard as it's extremely tippy and it bogs down on 2" and larger material. Plus, it's another engine to maintain.

Assuming everything checks out do you think this PTO DR unit is worth $500? I've had preliminary conversations and it seems like this is about where we'll land for price.

Your thoughts and advice?

Scott

I'd call 500 a bargain. I'd expect to see that unit in good condition selling for a grand or more.

Agree. $500 is cheap money for this perfectly capable light duty PTO chipper.

That's the direction I was leaning as well. This guy bought a whole tractor "package" used about a year ago and has not used it like he thought. Plus, reading between the lines, I think he needs the cashflow at this time.

He's got a tiller, chipper, bush-hog, rake, etc.

Kinda feel like a vulture, but opportunity is knocking...

We'll see what kind of shape it's in - maybe he ran a steel fencepost through it.

A dealer in my area is selling one of those in pretty good shape for $1200. They have a good reputation around here for being a good match with smaller tractors, and I expect that it would work fine on yours! That sure is a good price if it is not damaged in any real way.
