box blade

I have a NH TC 21 and thinking about a box blade for it , Tractor supply has 5' or 6' blade with rippers for 299.00 . My question is will my TC 21 handle a 5' blade or a six footer.
I will be using it for 750 foot gravel drive maybe twice a year and maybe in my clay soil we have here in Granite Falls NC. I dont like to abuse my equip so I would probably by a 5 ' to make a little easyer on little blue. thanks Dee

Dee, when I had a B7100, I bought one of the 5' box blades from TSC and liked it except for the fact that I broke some welds the first time I tried to use it. They gave me another one and I broke the welds on it, too, so they refunded my money and I bought another brand. Now I'm sure that was not typical; they just got a bad batch with poor welds. Of course, if you drop those rippers into hard soil, it may very well stop your tractor, but that's easily corrected by not going so deep with them. So, in my opinion, the 5' blade from TSC would likely be a good choice. However, there's one other thing you might consider, and that is how easy, or difficult, it is to raise or lower the rippers. I haven't looked at one at TSC lately, but the ones I got had nuts and bolts which made it very slow to raise or lower them.

I just looked at the KK box blades at the new TSC in my area today, they have pins in the scarifiers, just like my Kodiak box blade. Very easy to raise or lower.

The blade I looke at ,at TSC did have adjustable scarifiers held by pin's . It weighed 360 lbs . It look like it would do the job of doing my gravel drive twice a year and that about all it will be used for... I even had thought about a grader blade but I'am not sure it would do the job.

When I re-graded my gravel driveway, I used a landscape rake. I waited for it to rain a bit, then graded it when damp. It worked quite well. It's been 3 years and I have not had to re-do it.

I smooth the gravel from time to time with a boom pole with a piece of chain link fence attached.
