    Default Tell me about this plow

    The person who has this plow says it is an Allis-Chalmers 3 x 16". The pin on the left side has been broken off. You can see the 1" x 2" stub underneath. He says that I could adjust my lift arm on that side to make it usable. What do you folks think? If I want to use this would I be better off welding a pin down where it should be? How far down should it be? What other issues do you see with this unit?

    Where do I begin.....

    That is in fact an Allis Chalmers plow. (No clue as to model #) It looks very worn. Moldboards worn through, shins worn out, can't see shares well enough to tell, but they're the cheapest of the wear parts. Probably looking at $150 to $200 per bottom to replace worn iron. No coulters. That doesn't bother some people. I won't own a plow without coulters. The broken hitch pin will skew plow out of line as it is. Tail end will be thrown towards furrow. That'll make the plow track in the opposite direction. (Landslides not against furrow wall....plow wanting to go left.)

    Personally, I'd let it set where it's at.
    There are three kinds of men;
    1.) The ones that learn by reading
    2.) The few who learn by observation
    3.) The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.

    That looks a lot like the one I saw on ebay a while back. I even thought about bidding on it, seriously. Glad I saw Farmwithjunk's opinion...

    This is the one that was on E-Bay. He lives close to where I do so I went out there to look. Thanks for your help.
