I am constantly amazed with the things I am able to do with a grapple.
the guy that baled my hay told me I had a rock problem that had to be taken care of so he did not ruin his equipment. This rock stuck out of the groung just enough to be a problem. I didn't think I would be able to pull this chunck of granite out of the ground without digging down so I could scoop it out. I brought the grapple straight down and clamped on to the rock and lifted it clean. I don't know how I would have got that out with out the grapple.

That is exactly what I did with this hunk of granite. It was poking out of the ground about 4 inches and my flail mower was hitting it. I thought it might be a small rock so I just jammed the lower grapple tines down next to it then clamped it and lifted. The grapple held on to it and I just wiggled it as I lifted to loosen the rock. The tractor grunted and goaned and then suddenly this monster rock just popped out of the ground. I got off to take a look and that's when I saw I had clamped it with only a single upper tine. Amazing what these grapples can do.

Those rocks are huge! I would never would have guessed that a tractor that size could lift a rock that size out. That's a testiment to what those hydraulic cylinders can do and the forces behind them. Now you guys have some holes to fill in...

I had my doubts about the grapple getting the rock out of the hole. I had to dig down around the sides so I could get the grapple lowered straight down over the rock then just clamp and lift. Lifting rocks of that size is not a problem if you have enough weight on the back. Just go slow when moving them around. minor bumps seem to have a lot more affect on the tractor when you have that much weight on the front.

I have a WR Long grapple but never have tried doing something like that. I've been wondering about stumps...

I don't think a grapple on a cut is going to get stumps.. With all those roots its like someone cemented the thing in the ground...

I agree. You can easily knock over and then use the grapple to rip out the roots of trees up to about 5-6 inches. But you cannot just lift out a bigger stump unless it is pretty rotten. Tractor plus grapple does not equal excavator.
